Text Messaging: Do It

Text message all the people on your cellphones with a broadcast message supporting Mike Gravel for the presidency. Why text messaging?

Text messaging is seen more on a personal level and isn't viewed as spam. It's more of, hey as a friend (your on my phone so you more likely are) I wanted to pass this message on to you. This is probably one key piece of viral marketing that isn't being tapped. There are only so many people we can personally reach out to via the digtial medium (facebook, digg, reddit, myspace) or via the physical medium (flyers, banners, etc); however, almost everyone you know has a cellphone and you have an opportunity to port them information! Plus the message is much more personal and not viewed as blanket marketing (although you will be texting everyone on your phone).

I suggest making the message concise, such as: "Vote Mike Gravel President in '08. www.gravel2008.us" but feel free to write whatever you like but remember to include the website so that they can actually read about him. This will at least make everyone you know aware of Mike Gravel, without having to see them in person or call each and everyone one of them. Most cellphones have an option to select all or at least make it easy for you to select the people whom you would want to view the message.

Please post a reply here once you have or at least intend to do this. Doing this actually encourages others to do the same when they see that so many others are doing it. It would even be cool to post how many people you just text messaged! (I just texted 47 people btw!)

Thanks guys - we really must be selfless in this effort. I saw some comments that kind of disturbed me on the forum where people were asking what they would be getting in return for doing some work for the campaign. What you will be getting in return is the satisfaction that because of one man being elected to one post, the common man in the world will benefit, yourself included.

Lets make it happen.

ps. One more thing - Alex, can we please add a space or section to the "Contribute" section detailing what others have said on the forum about what one can do to help? Perhaps in bullet form and maybe adding the 'texting your friends' bit. Let me know what you think on this.

That's a good idea, and if

That's a good idea, and if you don't like talking about it outright then just put it at the head of your AWAY messages that way your friends can see it without it being too 'pushy' on your part.

Even if we should fail, let the ideals live on.

Good idea

I'm very into politics and none of my friends online or offline are so if I talk about politics way too much whether in general or anything specific they get bored really quickly. When I was supporting John Kerry in 2004 in my Email signature I would just have a little message saying to support him and a direct link to his website. That works just as well and now pretty much everybody that knows me knows my political leanings. ;) I'm hoping sometime soon to go by the office store and get some sticky printer paper so I can make my own Mike bumper stickers.  Another good idea is if your cell phone has a camera on it take a picture of a picture of Mike and put it on your cell phone background.  That way if someone sees it for some reason and ask who he is it's a great way to start up a conversation. :D
