Senator Gravel appeared in Las Vegas with several other candidates to discuss his Universal Health Care plan. Think Progress.org aired it live. Keep an eye out for a link.
Gravel and Andy Stern made it quite clear when they said we need to take health care off the back of the businesses and have the government cover it. Agreed!

I think that Mike's platform
initiatives, no matter how sound they may be, don't resonate with
most of the general population out there. They are too intellectual and
obtuse, Joe sixpack doesn't have a clue on those issue. I think the
other candidates are making points on a daily basis with the hot button
issue's, no matter how unrealistic the outcome. Kucinich is
pretty much on top of his game with this: Bush impeachment, Nancy
Pelosi on the AIPAC support, etc, etc and the hot topics that evolve almost on a
daily basis.
I for one am more interested in the current isssue as they unfold, than
the relativly obscure points of his plaform, merits aside This time
next year the primary campaign will be pretty much ancient
history, where do you go from there ?
I support Gravel because of his policy on the very 'key issues' that us rednecks are not supposed to care about. Iraq, torture, global warming, healthcare, taxes, Katrina, legalization, Palestine, M.I.C.
The merits are too distinguished and cannot go 'aside'. This is a new ballgame. Politics aside, we need to do it right.
I listened to Mike's speech on the web, it was one of his better performances. He still comes across a bit surly, and insists on talking about the National Initiative every chance he gets. It may be best to stick to the issue at hand. But I see the interconnectedness of his platform. All roads lead to the NI.
Still, he continues to distance himself from the other candidates. Win or lose, there's no doubt that Gravel is offering an alternative to the mainstream candidates.
I also saw him on Dobbs. A bit of a lost opportunity. When the country is so bent on getting out of Iraq, he chose to discuss the Fair Tax and, of course the NI. Still, coverage is coverage and Dobbs nearly endorsed the NI.
I do feel the Gravel campaign gaining a little traction here.
It would have been great if he was in the middle or something like that so other people who left could have heard him. It's sad so many people already have their person picked out and only listen to them and nobody else. :( I love how Mike is just bluntly honest towards people and speaks to you like an intelligent being. That's one thing I liked about John Kerry and I think that's one thing I like about Gravel as well. I read more about his voucher plan and I think it's worth talking about and hearing experts talk about the plan. I think he has the right idea about everyone having the same product and he's still giving options out there for people not to choose that plan unless they want to so for example my father can stay with the plan he gets with TVA while my brother and I can go to the voucher plan if that's what we wanted.
Gravel's best performance so far. He really had his talking points down. When he takes his time and explains his positions he makes more sense than anyone. I loved it when he told the audience; "Don't worry about my age, I'll select a younger man as Vice President." It was a good thing to say. People wonder about that. Great work, Gravel.
I think that's so cute about his jokes. People who did talk about Gravel had positive things to say about him I saw on the website and also on another board I go on. Very good news for Gravel.
It was a very very good performance. His best yet. He was relaxed and laid out his plan step by step. It's a very good idea, vouchers. Too bad it wasn't televised coast to coast.

ThinkProgress is traveling back to Washington, DC after yesterday’s Center for American Progress Action Fund/SEIU presidential health care forum,
so blogging will be light. Regular blogging will resume later today and
tomorrow, we’ll have highlights and exclusive video from the event.
I saw this and was excited. I wish they could have the whole thing up. Hopefully it'll be something CSPAN covers in the near future. I hope they include Gravel in the highlights and exclusives.
