Update: Sampson Steps Down

D. Kyle Sampson, the chief of staff to Atty. Gen. Alberto R. Gonzales, is stepping down from his position at the Justice Department in the first fallout from the department's firing of U.S. attorneys.

Both Sampson and his predecessor, John Ashcroft, had been identified by Democrats as senior officials whom they wanted to question as part of the investigation into who is behind the firing of seven federal prosecutors last December.

Senator Gravel called the resignation, 'Another example of the ineptitude of the Bush White House.'

I think Bush is being lined up to be impeached

I think that taking down Bush is going to take some doing. The wagons do seem to be circling a bit though. I saw that Karl Rove received a standing ovation at a function. What is wrong with people? Do they not see what they are doing to this country? It is unbelievable the amount of pain and hatred that the Bush administration has spread, yet some people still show them respect. They are not worthy of our respect and are worthy of our disdain.

You're riight, what IS wrong with people?....

When Bush spoke to Pelosi and the Democrats they actually applauded him. How could they?

Same with the State of the Union!

I couldn't believe Kucinich patted him on the back and applauded Bush as he walked out. The should have stood up and walked out on him in the middle of the damn thing.

Plain bad for the country

Honestly (and naively, and sadly), until a week or two ago, I actually believed that U.S. Attorneys operated independently of the political landscape, and that their mission was to pursue justice on behalf of the federal government, an entity I once thought we could separate from a particular party in power.  This scandal just reinforces my impression that the Bush administration is actually intentionally destroying the country.

Of course they are

I figured it out sometime in 2004 when I started my research on everything.  They don't like the government and think it should be their big business buddies running the show and they can get rich etc.  They claim the government doesn't work and than pull a stunt like this and it's only because of them and what they do that makes the government not work.  A good number of them though were doing their jobs and one attorney was doing the Duke Cunningham case and was getting close to figuring out Cheney was involved and giving the money and doing the bribes and that's when she was "let go."  Bush's argument is nothing was done wrong because he appointed the people and can fire them whenever they want.

Yet another fall guy

Just another fall guy going away so they can't be questioned.  I wonder though if the House was to question about this if they could send for this guy to come in and be questioned.  Now they're going to get some other croney.  It's like that one song: second verse same as the first!

Just standard procedure

I watched the whole senate hearing yesterday on C-SPAN.

The only interesting part was when

the hearing was suspended.  Grassley

was at the time asking the questions,

but he had not yet asked his first question.

Everything else was just standard procedure.

Samson resigned in order to cause

a separation between him and the papers.  Without his papers , he will not

be able to reconstruct exactly what happen

on the factual level.  And looks like unless you just happen to know

exactly where the papers are , you won't

be able to find them , because they are not on any computer.  Looks like

the only papers the Senate has came

from some computer data-base.

It might be a good exercise for us to go through just what

WE would do if confronted with an opportunity to

replace 92 US Attorneys. For the good of our party members,

it would be appropriate to bring on the fresh 92.

"U S Attorney looks good on the resume , and

lots of powerful people either want to have held those

positions, or influenced who did hold them.

The technique that the Bush Administration used

was basic University Fraternity house -- reverse

black ball.  If you were one of the  "no" members,

then you phoned Samson to be "ON" the list.  If

you were one of the "yes" members , then you phoned

Samson to be "OFF" the list.  At the end of an extended

time period , those remaining on the list were asked to resign.

I am certain that procedure has been used thousands of times in these situations of who is

to get one of several political jobs -- the old  "spoils

of victory problem.

The new wrinkle seems to be that no one considered

the cultural shift that came about if some of the

ones to resign are WOMEN  !

The stink seems to be that there were no females

in either the "Yes" or "no" positions.

Busted

By the end of his term, there won't be enough hours in the day for Bush to write all the pardons he'll need.
