Recently, around the time of the Oscar awards, CNN.com asked some of the presidential candidates what was their favorite motion picture. Among those participating were Hillary Clinton, John Edwards, Rudy Giuliani, John McCain, Bill Richardson and Mitt Romney (Barack Obama was not asked and/or chose not to participate). You can find their answers through an easy search, yet Mike Gravel was (one of those) evidently not asked. Well, CNN did say "some" of the candidates...But in the interests of equal time, and perhaps entertainment, I thought I'd ask here what Mike Gravel's favorite film was, if indeed he has one?

Big Eden
Submitted on January 4th, 2008 by choosenowI dunno, I thought he might enjoy that movie. Tis sort of a romantic comedy/drama. The plot outline (which I kinda-to-word-by-word stole from imdb): Man named Henry Hart, successful artist living in NY goes back to a small town in Montana where he grew up to take care of his ailing grandfather, and he has to come to terms with his relationship with Dean Stewart, his best friend in high school and the object of his unrequited love. A Native American store owner named Pike Dexter falls in love with Henry too, and the town tries to get Pike and Henry together.Haha, I don't know, that's just the movie that came to my mind. Although I don't think romantic comedy/drama is usually Gravel's type?Haaa I have no idea. This is all what we want Mike Gravel to watch.
Has anyone else seen 'Talk to Me'?
Submitted on January 18th, 2008 by DawnI haven't seen Big Eden yet, but I watched a few trailers on YouTube. The last movie I saw was really good-- I don't know if Gravel has seen it but I'm sure he'd like it. Heck, maybe he even listened to "Petey" back in the '60's. I'll quote imdb too, here's the plot:
"The true life story of Ralph Waldo "Petey" Greene Jr. In the mid-to-late 1960s, in Washington, D.C., vibrant soul music and exploding social consciousness were combining to unique and powerful effect. It was the place and time for Petey to fully express himself - sometimes to outrageous effect - and "tell it like it is." With the support of his irrepressible and tempestuous girlfriend Vernell, the newly minted ex-con talks his way into an on-air radio gig. He forges a friendship and a partnership with fellow prison inmate Milo's brother Dewey Hughes. From the first wild morning on the air, Petey relies on the more straight-laced Dewey to run interference at WOL-AM, where Dewey is the program director. At the station, Petey becomes an iconic radio personality, surpassing even the established popularity of his fellow disc jockeys, Nighthawk and Sunny Jim. Combining biting humor with social commentary, Petey was determined to make not just himself but his community heard during an exciting and turbulent period in American history. As Petey's voice, humor, and spirit surge across the airwaves with the vitality of the era, listeners tune in to hear not only incredible music but also a man speaking directly to them about race and power in America like few people ever have. Through the years, Petey's "The truth just is" style --- on - and off-air - would redefine both Petey and Dewey, and empower each to become the man he would most like to be. Lives of Others is the only good movie mentioned
Submitted on July 11th, 2007 by IWannaBeANumber...so far; and the only one I can imagine Gravel would like or recommend.
I think maybe he could be an Advise and Consent man, and Anatomy of a Murder ...yeah, basically I see him as liking Otto Preminger movies!
Wonder what he thinks of Michael Moore's stuff. I bet he would also like All the President's Men and I would hope he'd like Spartan.
28 Weeks Later is an interesting commentary on Iraq

Submitted on July 11th, 2007 by IWannaBeANumberCome on!
"V for Vendetta, Eyes Wide Shut, Armageddon," --those three movies share one commonality: they are rotten, worthless wastes of money.
If I found out Mike Gravel like any of those even slightly, I would not vote for him!
Love the Camus, though.
