Can we get Mike Gravel on MSNBC?
' Unfortunately, this great man was no great campaigner in the 2008 presidential election. To most people, he became little more than an entertainer.
' And that's exactly what he should be... He voted for Obama... This man is honest, funny, and liberal no matter what people call him.
' With the help of some MSNBC producer to spice him up a bit, I think Gravel would be a hit... I just think people (rightly) didn't feel comfortable with him as a presidential candidate. He would be much better as a TV host.
' What do you think? '
I think Mike Gravel was the only great campaigner in 2008. I don't think Mike Gravel is a liberal. I don't think that Mike voted for Obama. I don't think he's a clown. I don't think that Mike Gravel needs "some MSNBC producer to spice him up a bit". I don't think that people were right in feeling "uncomfortable" with Mike Gravel as a presidential candidate. I don't think that MSNBC, the company that kicked him out of the debates, is going to give Mike Gravel two minutes, let alone an hour time slot, of their time. Other than that I think this is a brilliant article, typical of the output at Daily KOS.

how many dark horse candidates cared enough to let us continue?
no one has to preach the converted here
we need to improve credit - we need to believe we can do it - we need to know we can - if not us - no one else will do it
the driven truth
Submitted on February 14th, 2009 by arpidoodlewe all must live with our own version of it - that's what being free is all about - but I don't know about letting a kid into the drug store and saying - "go nuts" - and then trying to say - the 'truth' will guide them through it ....
who knows - I'm too busy chasing my won tail in circles these days - I blame that on the totally inequitable banking system - too much time spent getting ahead to delve into much of anything - I think maybe the republicans will win after all - it's the way the dice have been loaded
just kidding :)
Wow, you saw that one fast
Submitted on February 13th, 2009 by rosslI wrote that and was just coming here to post it.
Keep in mind, I was writing for the Dailykos audience.
And I think it's a different situation now that Gravel isn't campaigning to be elected - he would get a much different reaction from viewers and the people behind the camera, I think. Granted, I don't think there's a good chance at all of him getting the spot. Hopefully he will get a TV show, though.
As for the Obama vote, Gravel said a few weeks before the election that if it were close in his state of Virginia, he'd vote for Obama. I think he said he voted Obama after the election, as well. I mean, surely Obama is better than McCain would have been?
As for Gravel's campaigning skills, he was not the best campaigner. He was a great candidate, IMHO, because he spoke the truth and really inspired me. But he was not an effective campaigner, judging by the fact that he got the second least amount of votes out of the Democratic field.
Do you really think Mike
Submitted on February 18th, 2009 by gravel08njDo you really think Mike would take a show on the same network that barred him from debates and has ridiculed him for discussing his concerns with government?
If he even is interested in some kind of television program, perhaps he should look into somthing on PBS; what little 'public' television we have.
Does PBS have an open
Submitted on February 18th, 2009 by rosslDoes PBS have an open spot? That's why I was writing it about MSNBC.
Plus, it's different now that he's not a candidate.
Always a FDR Democrat at
Submitted on March 2nd, 2009 by Independent_PatriotAlways a FDR Democrat at heart, I have little doubt Mike cast his vote for Obama - as did many Democrats with clothes-pins on their nose.
I would expect nothing less from the Senator.
As for a MSNBC primetime slot, I think it's a great idea.
But given the networks', as well as Rachel Maddow's, growing tendency to throw Gravel uner the bus, I don't see it happening.
What do you mean their
Submitted on March 3rd, 2009 by rosslWhat do you mean their "growing tendency" to throw him under the bus? And has Rachel Maddow ever even mentioned him?

It should come as no surprise to any observer of the Senator’s presidential campaign that MSNBC turned against him. At one point, he was a regular guest every Tuesday and would take calls from the home audience. By the time he was banned, not only could the MSNBC commentariat not bring themselves to utter his name, but when they did, it was almost always to trash him.
And yes, Rachel Maddow is included in that lot. As I’ve previously made mention of over in the Media forum.
