Ralph Nader has recently added the National Innitiative to his list of Issues that are "off the table" for both Obama and McCain. He even quotes both Gravel and Cicero in his desciption. Just thought there may be a few of you that might be interested. Here is a link to his Issues page.

is nader the last hurrah then?
Submitted on July 14th, 2008 by arpidoodleHow well is this guy really listening to the people when the NI4D is on the bottom of the list? Granted health care and other important issues are way up there but unless PEOPLE can maintain the issues which define their lives - well - gotta wonder what would happen if a self reliant bunch like the Amish started using SAP (Systems Applications and Products) software for management applications...
Just seems that free enterprise has an inherent flaw called 'the inability to deal with anything besides profit'
Memorial Day is sooner than Fathers' Day but...
Submitted on July 12th, 2008 by jflMemorial Day is sooner than Fathers' Day but... I'll take Fathers' Day 2009 over 100 years from now or sometime after 2011. With the troops to be redeployed in Afghanistan.
Mike's proposal was 120 Days. Which could have been achieved if BO, for instance, had led a filibuster as Mike did nearly forty years ago, by Chrstmas 2008. There was no Santa Claus.
But Mike would have had ALL the troops home by the Memorial Day after his election. Might still, but I think I'll be only one of too few writing him in from TX, or any other state. And I might vote for Ralph, now that he's on board the NI4d... choo, choo, if not express. And, number one, publicly and unequivocally made known his intentions with regard to Iraq.
Obama, for one is personally responsible for all the deaths in Iraq from Christmas 2008 'til Fathers' Day 2009. Best case.
Election 2008: Presidential Candidate Ralph Nader
' Staten Island, N.Y.: Mr. Nader, what exactly is your plan for withdrawal from Iraq, and how long do you think it would take to implement it? Thank you.
' Ralph Nader: The Nader/Gonzalez plan for the military and corporate withdrawl from Iraq would be on a six-month timetable. During that period, we urge UN-sponsored elections, continuation of humanitarian aid, since we owe it to the devestated Iraqi people, and negotiations with the three groups: Shiites, Sunnis and Kurds regarding a level of autonomy within the overall framework of a unified Iraq. All three groups want a unified Iraq but they want some autonomy. By returning Iraq and the oil back to the Iraqis, the bottom will fall out of the insurgency since its only objective is to evict the invader/occupier. '
Very good Q&A with Ralph Nader over the internet. Although there were no questions about the NI4d. I don't know if that was due to an underlying ignorance of the NI4d among the general, or Nader-supporting, public, or to the screening of the Q's to which A' s were provided for the internet performance.

He didn't put the link up

One foot at a time I guess.
I know...but it is a step in
Submitted on July 4th, 2008 by wentrikinI know...but it is a step in the right direction. I have sent numerous emails through the Nader website urging him to take a harder stance on this issue as I see it as the #1 issue facing Americans. I have listened to Nader speak numerous times and I heard him say time and time again that even though the "smaller" parties haven't produced a president, they have been successful in "pushing" the major parties to take on their issues like ending slavery, establishing social security, women's right to vote, etc, etc. As supporters of the NI4D, I feel like it is our job to "push" Nader into taking a harder stance on this issue and to even start promoting the NI4D as it does fit nicely into his platform. As I have in previous posts, I urge all supporters of the NI4D to continue to email Nader. It has already proven to work as he has added the National Initiatice to his list of issues but we should not settle for that as now we need to push for the link (www.ni4d.us) to also be added to his site. This will make it easier for the Nader supportors to vote for it and it will increase publicity for the initiative.
Google debate in New Orleans
Submitted on July 3rd, 2008 by jflRalph Nader is aiming to jump through Google's hoop and to appear in Google's debate in New Orleans on September 18th. The hoop is held at 10% in "the national polls ". Could be like the kid who tries to kick the football every season and the little girl who pulls it out of the way each and every time. Or not.
If Nader does get to 10% in the polls, he's at 6% now, then there would be an opportunity to send in questions about the NI4d for all the candidates to answer.
The problem of course is who does the polling, Nader could be kept below 10% by the national polling media. And who chooses the questions put to the candidates, Google's catering to one demographic cohort or another and to one "narrative" of what the election is all about or another could eliminate any substantial questions there. Or McCain/Obama could double-team Nader and not show up.
Yeah, it could be something more than nothing, or just more nothing.
But it seems very good that Nader has made the NI4d one of his issues.
Thanks for the news!
