Stay in touch - PLEASE READ THIS BEFORE YOU LEAVE US!

Now that the campaign is over, I'm worried that all of our efforts and all of our grassroots and online organization will be useless.  It won't be useless, however, if we all stay in touch.  We are like-minded people who want the Ni4D passed.  There are too few of us to let this opportunity go to waste.

So please just comment with your email address and any additional information you might want to include about how to stay in touch with you.

Everyone, please continue to work on spreading the word about the National Initiative.  That is the reason Mike ran in the first place, after all!

Does anyone have these

Does anyone have these emails compiled as a full list that you could send to me?

I have most of them I think

send me an email at debbie.wonderkitty@gmail.com.

There has to be a better way to share email distribution lists. Aside from using the google group...

The National Initiative for Democracy will eventually be incorporated into our consittution, but it would be nice to see it happen in my lifetime.  Gravel's '08 run for the presidency failed because it lacked coverage.  You had to be a devout Gravel follower to hear anything about his message beyond what little was unveiled during the Democratic Debates.  The NI4D clearly needs more publicity.  We should have a web conference one of these days to brainstorm on some ways of getting some national publicity.  I bet that there are people out there in the media who would support the NI4D.  Try Bill Moyers and Noam Chomsky.  They may be good starting points.

www.vote.org   There's a

www.vote.org

There's a list of people who have endorsed it.  This includes Noam Chomsky.

Why assume that this website should shut down?

We're handing out e-mails like this is the end. Why not think of this as a new beginning? I've made several posts suggesting that this website should be converted into something like "The National Initiative Network", with the function of promoting the National Initiative...that is Senator Gravel's core issue.

There are all kinds of states that have candidates running for governor, U.S. Congress, state legislatures. Would any of those candidates support the National Initiative? And in states where there isn't even a state initiative process, would any of those candidates support a state-level initiative?

If there are, we can promote them here. We've already got pages for every state. (Just click "state contacts" in the drop-down menu under "Contacts" up above.)

Other portions of the menu bar could be converted:

The "News" section could be about what's going on across the country in relation to the National Initiative campaign (and even proposals for having an initiative process at the state-level where it currently doesn't exist).

Instead of "Donate" to the Gravel Campaign, it could be "Donate" to the Ni4D campaign.

Instead of "Gravel Gear", it could be "Ni4D Gear"

Instead of "Gravel Network", it could be "Ni4D Network".

Anyone else like to see this website undergo a transition along those lines?

I Agree

I think that that is a great idea. The site could become the organizing force for the NI4D Revolution.

I agree that

this website should be used for the NI4D to further Mike's message.  Awesome idea!  Who owns it?  Who pays for it?  Who do we need to contact to find out if it can be done?

I have been a supporter of Mike Gravel ever since I first saw him in action in the first MSNBC debate on April 26th, 2007. I would like to stay in contact with those supporting and promoting his ideas.

I often communicate by chat on gmail.  I am feeling really down right now, but I have definite thoughts on the situation and plans for the future.  I just need to collect my thoughts right now.

I'm in the state of

I'm in the state of Georgia.  I'd prefer to keep any particularly personal information unsaid, for a variety of reasons.

Better to try and get ahold of me/arrange, a live chat on AIM at the same screenname than email back and forth.  Wouldn't want the inbox inundated either.   Eventual cell phone wranglings perhaps better than that should it come to it.  ( I'm better at live typing/conversation a la the Alternative Debate chatboxes if folk recall)  I'd especially like to speak with Gravel somewhere in the crazy future, while we are all wishing upon various metaphorical stars here.

As to my angle, well, though I didn't post here anywhere near as often as most....and that I am of a much different mindset than most(all) here....what is the case is I'd think it prudent to keep me in mind in a "consultant" position as things roll along in the years to come.  The campaign unfortunately never seemed to jump at most things forum folk, myself included, mentioned....but this issue IS one I recall specifically posting about months ago----the time post President Gravel, Win or Lose, and where/how things will play out from then.

Be advised though:  We presently have likely even less folk with this in mind than even the Free State Project lot...so while there are some advantages to that---by and large it is quite easy for folk to get wrapped up otherwise and this whole thing dwarfed and even more marginalized than it already is in the grand scheme of things.

But anyways, let all folk forum, staff, or Gravel himself otherwise be welcome to contact me and I'll try to explain things as best I can on whatever topic I am sought.  Oddly enough, this type of thing is just about the only thing I have a knack for----but that and $1 will buy you a 20oz Coke at the pharmacy I work with without being crooked in this current political climate.

Thank you.  We do have

Thank you.  We do have very, very, very, very few people, but that's why everyone counts so much, and that's why I started this thread.  However, I'm hopeful.  If we are one in a million, then that gives us a few hundred people to work with!

And look at the fruits of some efforts that (must have) involved only a few people, especially at their start.  Instant Run-off voting, making Senate elections more Democratic, the entire environmental movement.  Sure these are far apart and some are still struggling, but they're off the top of my head, and they've had enough success so that they're either mainstream or nationally known.

I'm hopeful.

We are not yet at a point of

We are not yet at a point of "Abandon Hope All Ye Who Enter", but that gate sign isn't too far over the horizon as things stand this very second, as per any public knowledge of the matter beyond Gravel, his confidantes, and perhaps some key staff members.

The trick with starting things with a "few" folk isn't so much the numbers....but rather how many and what others are doing so concurrently.  Look to your history, most of the worst wrought things in this Nation's history began with little treehouse cabals of men----only their treehouses were mansions and fortresses---IE Military Industrial Complex.  Or even at a purely individual level on the People's side you had Nikola Tesla....on the "other" side you had Thomas Edison-----that ended about as badly as it possibly could have for the entire human race.  So if this, like most things for ill or gain, is to start with a few folk....said folk must think beyond mere slogans and whatnot.  If you had sinister designs, think how you'd go about THOSE for instance to accrue success overtime...since it is much easier to ruin than to cultivate.  The environmental movement is largely a dog and pony show that many well meaning people have put their lives into, throngs of people, but it then came under a tyranny of the minortiy not unlike most otherwise in this country in the last several decades-----how the founder of Greenpeace had to abandon what he'd created due to this vileness is a pretty solid example; made for a good episode of Penn and Teller's BS to boot.

So it comes down to, among other things I'll not go into here:

1. Time and Circumstance

2. Operating Capital

3. Contingencies

4.  Dumb Luck

5. Prolonged  Vested Interest "Carrot"----likely beyond mere warm feelings.

6. Sphere(s) of Influence

It'll get very complex even at the simplest of levels and intentions, but most other things are as well in life to varying degrees.

Please put where you are

I went to set up a NI4D group on Yahoo incase we all wanted to continue meeting there, but it looks like one already exists.  Not sure if it is active, but if not - perhaps we can fire it up again and keep this going?

I'd really like to keep....

This site open for us...The forums are already open and operational. Coming here for me, is like coming home...I'm really going to miss the opportunity to continue to discuss and read others' opinions, etc...Please keep THIS site, and make it one that promotes the NI4D as a grassroots tool!

I agree Sharon

It would be awesome if this site was turned into Sen. Gravel's personal site and the forums kept going.  If not, what's the alternative?

I think now we need to focus on the Ni4d (in order to have some control in the future of this country and to stop the damage Obama or McCain can do) and bring any sane person in office.

Deborah Vollmer unfortunately lost against Van Hollen during the democratic primaries. So I'll see if the Green party has a decent candidate for Congress in my district.

Gravel told me to run for office (he told me that I had the morality to lead) when I met him on April 30th. I just hope that this country will still exist in 2014.

A Question

Hey, this is Dodge, and I hope there are no hard feelings from anyone on my switch to Barr. Someone from the campaign told me that there were, and I feel very guilty. I came to the restaurant to have your blessings, and I felt I did. If I didn't, and you guys said you were not happy about then and there, I wouldn't have joined. And of course, I'm still offering to pay for the hotel room, and I emailed Whitney asking if I should and how. But it seems like I've gotten the cold shoulder from a lot of you, and I want to keep in contact with you after this. I hope there's no anomosity, and if there is, then I feel bad. Please don't think I'm trying to betray you, I'm just going as to where the wind blows. And I told Mike I'd be very receptive to a National Initiative fundraiser before we left, which I still am. I feel I met a lot of great people, and I don't want to leave this with a bad taste in my mouth, and I'm sorry if there are hostile feelings. I thought I had your blessings to go ahead with this. I do agree with Barr politically (on his current veiws), though of course, I'd much rather Mike had made the nomination. Please don't think that this is a statement I'm trying to make, I just love politics and I didn't want to end it, and I accepted the offer.I know one of the campaign people had these hard feelings, and I hope you guys don't harbour it as well. And, I'd like to thank you for taking me under your wing and showing me the ropes. All of you did a tremendous job, and I think very highly of all of you. Thank you so much for being so receptive to me, and I hope there are no bitter feelings.

I am not letting Mike's message end here.

I told Mike at the convention that if it comes down to it I will run for office on his platform. I am not going to let this end here. You can get in contact with me at Leveer@Gmail.com

I am strongly considering running on Mike's platform in 2012. Please keep in touch.
