Here is a poem that sums up my thoughts about my experiences in the US as well as my feelings about the US.
United States
In my place of birth,
I sometimes wonder where I can find a cup of mirth
when people think that proposing an electric car is unpatriotic.
I am running around everywhere, for life is hectic
And yet my conscience is telling me to shake off the aging horse and the rusting cart.
I've been fed with dreams and hopes
And yet the media and representative government are blocking them. So I can't help but mope.
In the 18th century, Thomas Jefferson wanted secularism,
but the evangelical theocrats of 2008 want a return to puritanism.
When can I ever be proud of being American?
Should we coin a new term "Unitedstatesman",
for the term "American" sounds expansionist? There is a lot of mist, and I want people to vote on laws and make laws instead of begging Congress.
People believe excessively in perfection and triumphalism. I am agitated and restless.
If people can make ecofests and form political campus organizations, why can't they make laws?
Jingoists think I am unpatriotic, even though I want to genuinely improve things.
The world loves scapegoating me, even though I am trying to improve this country and encouraging
people from other countries to apply my standards. I feel like my country is crumbling
but no one seems to take me seriously.
The geology of the Appalachians and that of the West are beautiful,
and the diversity of this country's immigrant communities is wonderful.
But why do people want to stop and avoid going further?
Don't they care about their ailing mother?
Why do people focus on her life's accomplishments instead of finding a remedy to the diseases of imperalism,
the military industrial complex, fear, corporatism and poisonous triumphalism?
I want genuine meaning, and I want my ideals to come true.
The ideas engraved on coins and institutions need to be real. I want a real democracy.
As an ordinary citizen, I want more control over the fate of this country.
Let's modernize the Constitution with the Ni4d.
Why do people treat the Constitution like a Bible? It's man-made and a product of slavery.
The electoral college and representative government don't give me a real say.
The number of problems is accumulating daily and the global scale of them call for real change.
When I look at coins, the Statue of Liberty, Sideling Hill and Ocean City, I realize that there is a better future
if people are willing to change the notion of human governance and stop the torture.
We can do better. I want to be proud of being a citizen of the United States.
Why does the world constantly paint me as an unrefined person in this State?
Please, let this eagle soar for the sake of humanity.
I no longer want to see any sores.
