I have a small problem

I have always called myself a Libertarian and came to support Mike when he declared as a Libertarian candidate. I grew up in a heavily Republican household in a heavily Republican stronghold in Middle Tennessee. I volunteered for Sen. Frist's reelection campaign as well as Van Hilleary's failed gubernatorial bid here in Tennessee. I don't have what one would call vast experience in campaigning, but I think I have a little more than most. I guess my problem is how I manage to convince my Republican contacts that they have been betrayed by their party (not difficult) and should now support Mike (I'm thinking a tad more difficult for these knee-jerk conservatives). Also, I attended an elite private prep school and rubbed shoulders with the offspring of the rich and famous...our reunion is coming up in May (these reunions typically raise between 3-5 million for the school) and I am hoping that I will be able to bring some people to the cause there...perhaps even some with deep pocketbooks who can afford to donate the election cycle maximum. I've been out of the game for over 5 years as far as politcal activity goes and any talking points or advice on particularly effective methods you have had as a fundraiser would be much appreciated :)

Just talk to them about

Just talk to them about Gravel.  Talk to them about how his stances on the issues are the second most important part of this campaign, because his presidency would be all about the National Initiative.  Tell them about the National Initiative.  Tell them that even if they don't support Gravel, they should support the National Initiative.

I think the best way to go

I think the best way to go about it is tackle some of the issues first then introduce the candidate.  Talk about the national initiative for democracy and see how they feel about it.  Maybe talk about the drug war and/or immigration.  After you get a feel about where they stand talk about Gravel.  If you just jump right in with Gravel it might turn them off right away because of the media exposure Gravel has received.  Becides the message is always more important than the candidate... always.
