We know what 11th hour scholars are, apply that term to presidential candidates and see how they rate. Mike's record as Senator and subsequent years spent developing the National Initiative certainly don't classify him as a johnny-come-lately or opportunist, he talks a lot about the fundamentals that are being ignored - intentionally or through ignorance; yet the non-fundamentalists, - opportunists the media coddles, are the ones strongly depicted as winners. The media's continual pounding of Mike does not endear the average young adult to him - that is just another battle between fading iconoclasts to the up and coming new voter.
It's amazing more Americans do not strongly react to being typified (as such) by this highly unnatural and denigrating form of media objectification.
I think the link being exploited by the opportunists is to be found between the post-war baby-boomers, (q.v.) those who suffer judgemental whiplash from the Age of Television, and the gen-x'-ers - those who suffer the growing pains associated with having unprecedented responsibility thrust upon them.
By 2012, 2016 at the latest, there will be a radically new generation of voter. I'm not quite sure what their values will be, I suppose a lot depends on what the current administration leaves them, but they are going to be a very, very sharp bunch of kids. We can not fail them, regardless of the links 'business as usual' governance mercilessly assails.
The links between apathy and understanding are under record stress. They need not be the cause of massive destruction.
Thank you Gregory Chase - received my 'Elect Gravel for President' yard sign today - my yard is under 6 inches of snow, but in the spring when the flowers and Americans come into full blossom in this Stratford Festival town, they will be reminded of something they would sooner forget - politics as usual is not politics as usual!
