New to Gravel

Hi there,

This is my first time posting in this forum. As a matter-of-fact, I am brand new to Senator Gravel. I saw a q&a tv show the other day, I think it was at some university or other. Anyway, Senator Gravel really caught my attention.

I won't pretend to say that I know an awful lot about politics, actually, I am quite sure that I know little. However, I refuse to be one of those people that believe that my vote doesn't count.

I was a Obama supporter once I heard him speak at the DNC, I really was hooked. But as-of-late, I have become an unbeliever in him.

I decided I liked Hilary next, because I liked the way she was trying to do something about healthcare. I, for one, am one of the 70% of full time workers without health insurance. I would like to see something done about that. Heck, when I was in school, my kids got the Florida Kid Care.

We used to pay $60. a month...I got a job and now it is $256. a month. Wow! What a change! I can't afford that, but I guess I will go into a hole, because, after all the kids need that health insurance. As for my husband and myself, well, we will have to do without.

It's so weird, when my family of 4 was making $20,000 a year we had as much money as we do now that I am working and we make $40,000 a year. The difference is that now we have no insurance, no food stamps, no free lunch at school, and my list could go on and on....No No No...I am not crying for hand outs....listen, I like working, but the fact of the matter is, that I have the same amount of money I had back then...I am just saying...how is that leveling the playing field. Will I ever be able to catch up?

My husband and I have only one car. We wake up at 4 am every morning, drag the kids out of bed, take him to work, then come back home, sleep a couple of hours...I bring the kids to school, go get my husband to bring me to work, he goes back to work, goes and gets the kids, they come back to get me, and its home and bedtime....wow....what a way to live. All this working and I haven't got a pot to pee in. No saving money, no insurance, no clothing money, no Christmas money...and I am working now!! What the heck? How could that be? I know that our gas costs as much as a new car payment, that's for sure. I have been having heart palpitations, I quit smoking 2 weeks ago. I want to live. But, I can't get to the Dr. I am sorry for going on and on. I didn't mean to do that.

I just want you to understand who is writing this. I am real.

But, back on point, I caught Senator Gravel speaking at this q&a and I really really liked his ideas. I sure hope that he can get in there. He has my vote if he can get through the starting gate past those other two.

I hadn't even heard his name before I saw the q&a. I sure hope someone who cares about the 'me's in this country will get in there and stop this craziness.

I told my husband that I can see why some people commit suicide. It is so hard working and never being able to see your money. You never get to see your kids. You live paycheck to paycheck. Everytime you think you might be getting ahead...the car breaks down! So-to-speak.

Anyway, good luck Senator Gravel, my hopes and prayers are riding on you now. I hope you read this.

Ps. I, personally, would never commit suicide, so don't you all go worrying about me. I love my kids, and for richer or poorer, I am sticking around for as long as I can. EK

Welcome!

I'm new here as well, I've been really impressed by Senator Gravel. He's stolen the show at every debate I've seen, even if the major news media dismisses him, I really have grown to admire him and his honesty and integrity.

Welcome, Leah!

I'm so glad that you found your way here.  Senator Gravel really has stolen the show at the debates, hasn't he?  I geuss that's why the media is so afraid of him.  He will not be silenced!

Thanks

Thank you Lori for your kind welcome and reply. I was in a pretty somber mood when I wrote what I did. I am not sorry for writing it though. It is how I feel. I just wish that someone could get in there that would be more interested in leveling the playing field a bit. I know so many people that are just like me--just trying to get ahead in life. That's all I want. I got my Pell Grant to go to school, I thought things would be so much better. Of course, I only went for a two-year Associates Degree, and with an A.S. I guess I can't expect to live high on the hog. Heck, I never expected to live high on the hog anyway, but I DID think I'd see at least SOME of my money. What a way to live. The rent around my town in UNBELIEVABLE!! My husband and I were paying 500 for rent, then when all of the investors started eating up every nook and cranny in town, our rent got raised to 750. Wow! I can't afford to pay child care for my kids before and after school, so my husband (prep cook) was working part time in between the school times. I told him that if he goes to work full time, and we put the kids in day care, what would it help? The 200. extra that he'd be making would just be spent on the child care bill, I told him he should just stick with part time. However, my husband doesn't like to feel like a part-time worker. That is why we have the hectic schedule that we do--rising at 4 am every day now. I worry that this is taking a toll on the children--being dragged out of bed every moring. Hmmph! I guess you do what you can. It sure would be nice to feel my money. When I started at 12. an hour at my job, I thought "Wooo Hoooo! I will certainly feel what it feels like to HAVE something now!" Bah! I don't feel anything but tired now. Maybe this is why so many people just have babies instead of working...maybe they see the alternative, working so hard for nothing, never seeing your kids, your lives falling apart, the kids getting in trouble....breeding grounds for trouble. I love my family. I want us to always be together, I will work hard to be a good example to them, I will show them every day how to be hard workers and respectful, kind citizens...who have a choice in life to vote...The kids and I were in the paper voting in the last election for governer...they voted in the Kids Vote booth. That is what I teach my kids. Vote! Make a difference. I am so tired of poor people who vote Republican. I AM sorry, but I just don't get it! Why on earth are they on food stamps, medicaid, etc and STILL voting Republican? Don't they KNOW that it is the Democrats who fight for these things for them? NO! They don't know, they are too uneducated. If I could see anything happen, I'd like to see the government give a short class to all voters on what each of the parties stand for BEFORE they are allowed to vote--not telling people who is the good guy and who is the bad guy, but just honestly putting it down to black and white, this is the way they do it , and this is the way they do it. I just think it is unfair to sign someone up to vote and that person has NO idea what they, themselves, stand for. Ok Ok Ok, I will get off of my lil soapbox. I just wanted to thank you Lori, your warmth was appreciated. EK
