Earlier this week, I ordered "Citizen Power" through my local Barnes & Noble Store and I got it today (I have read the first 15 pages, and I have found it very refreshing and inspiring).
However, I couldn't help but feel extremely disturbed when I saw the trashy sham opposition books that valued power and party over substance (republican and democratic authors) as well as the empty books written by plastic statues (McCain, Obama and Hillary. Like Bush who emptied the meanings of the words "freedom and democracy", Hillary emptied the meaning of the word "experience", McCain emptied the meaning of the word "character" and Obama emptied the meanings of the words "hope and change". In spite of what the media is trying to say, one cannot sum up a candidate with one word, especially since that word can actually be the opposite of that candidate). I was even more disturbed when I saw children's propaganda books glorifying Obama, even though Obama has done nothing to help this country throughout his political career and will not help the US. I feel like Obama is becoming increasingly a cult of personality figure like Stalin or Hitler, especially if there are now children's books making him look pure.
And I am sddened when I see that one has to pre-pay Gravel's book in order for one copy to arrive at the bookstore.
I would rather see Gravel's book (which values substance before anything else) in front of the store instead of the trashy partisan books.
Is there any way that Gravel's book be sold in massive copies at public bookstores and appear in front of an unknown customer's eyes at a book store instead of having to order and pre-pay it? I am saying this because with the current pre-paying system, the customer has to know Mike Gravel before buying his book whereas the media-brainwashed individual will not know that this book exists.
I want the media-brainwashed people to discover Gravel's book so that they can wake up.
If you do not have the financial means to publish massive amounts of copies in bookstores (every copy costs money to make), I will understand. I just wanted to point out something that may explain Gravel's lack of exposure.
If that's the case, then I will do my best to help by carrying my copy of Gravel's book "Citizen Power" and shouting out a few quotes during my outings so that people can know that Gravel exists (as well as to make his book more well-known).
In spite of my stress, I will also try to finish my book project "In Search of Coherence" (I had to add a segment on Youtube's recent censorship in the last chapter) so that Gravel can get more exposure, and I want to be able to sell massive amounts of copies in a bookstore.

You could call youselves something like, "The Gravel '08 Book Promotion Team" or something like that. Get some people together who are interested, bat some ideas around on how to promote these books, make a plan, then put it into action.
I am having trouble with the Citizen Power website. I cannot seem to get past the quantity page. I have put 2 in for the quantity, 1, etc. and nothing will work. I was especially excited about purchasing the book when I found out that Mike had autographed 50 copies. I really would like to get an autographed copy! Can anyone help? Thanks!
Thanks! I just ordered 2 copies. I have an old monitor, and I didn't see the checkout button in the upper right hand corner. How silly of me, but I just didn't see it! Anyhow, I am looking forward to getting my copies of Citizen Power.
I think that Gravel is releasing another book in addition to Citizen Power. I was looking on Amazon.com, and there's a book to be released on April 1st, 2008, written by Mike Gravel and Joe Lauria, called "My America". In the book description, this Gravel is positively identified as the Former Alaskan Senator Gravel.
I also asked this question to Mike through a youtube question, so maybe we'll get a response.
I got my copy at my university, (which also says on the inside 'Best Wishes, Mike Gravel' - whoo!) but I'd really like a copy of my own so I can mark it up and whatnot.
In the latest interview with Google, Mike said that they're repressing the book soon, and that It'll be avaliable for free on his website. I'm all for free distrubution of information, and self-publication, so I'm wonder how they'll do it. (Not because I'm cheap, but because people should be able to learn and educate themselves for little to nothing. It's a right, not a priveledge. Right?
Anyway, yeah... that's the latest I know of. I also suggested to the campaign of Lulu.com which you can upload a PDF of the book, and they print on demand (and also distribute on places like amazon) so if 1 person buys the book on lulu, one book gets printed. If a million books get bought, a million books get printed.
I am working with Mike on his soon-to-be-released book, Citizen Power: A Mandate for Change, which updates his Citizen Power book published in 1972. This is going to be a great book, and it will be published by AuthorHouse, a print-on-demand publisher in Bloomington, Indiana. We hope to have the book available sometime in November; as you can imagine, the campaign demands on Mike have made his availability to work on the book rather difficult to schedule.
The book will be available on Mike's web site, at amazon.com, at bookstore sites (Border's, Barnes & Noble, etc.), by special order at bookstores, and at www.authorhouse.com/bookstore. Just type in Mike's name in the search box on the bookstore main page...
For the sake of the campaign, I hope everyone will choose to either make a donation in exchange for reading it free on Mike's site or pay the full or discounted price online or at bookstores. More updates as we get closer to publication...

If you can, structure this like Obama's online store, so every purchase counts as a contribution. Even if the campaign ends up paying author house a high percentage of that contribution, it will still raise Mike's overall numbers, which will seriously help in the media.
We are currently exploring different options for purchasing Mike's new book, which we hope will be available sometime in November, depending on his schedule to give him time to work on the book. Obviously, the best option for the campaign would be to have someone buy a large lot wholesale so that on the campaign trail Mike can sell them and instantly receive the profits, rather than waiting for future royalties. The other advantage to this option would be Mike's availability to autograph books at campaign stops around the country...and most people will want his autograph, as this book will be a keepsake for years to come (if his first Citizen Power is any indication).
The normal options would be to order through the publisher (authorhouse.com), amazon.com, bookstores (real and online), and other retail outlets. All of those give the campaign royalties but they are not realized until three or four months down the road. Long term, they're worth it, but short-term for the campaign, the first option is the best. We're working on making that possible.

To Hitsumei: How about a "Book Promotion Team"?

Here's a suggestion: what if you got together with other Gravel supporters who wanted to promote not only Citizen Power, but Mike Gravel's other upcoming books as well...A Political Odyssey - (May 2008) and The Kingmakers: The Mainstream Media and the Road to the Whitehouse - (June 1, 2008)?

What do you think?

Great news...
Submitted on October 29th, 2007 by seventy-oneI have a couple of questions:
1.) Can we preorder it anywhere? Or will we only be able to preorder it when the exact release date is set?
2.) All of the proceeds go directly to the campaign correct?
And, if you were to be forced to pick a date, based on what you think will happen, when exactly would you say it would come out?
(I'm more excited for this than all the Harry Potter fans combined, so forgive me for all the impatient questions).
By the way, the cover looks great. Though I was hoping to see the original 'Citizen Power' button.
Well, its a print on demand
