I've been hitting the Googles lately scrounging for info on the primaries. I suppose what I really have is a question. How do those of us out here trying to organize and get the message out go about explaining to people not only the importance of, but also how to vote in the primaries? Also, if the DNC decides to give us the finger and not choose Gravel as the Democratic candidate for 2008, is there any hope of Gravel running as an independent?

New Jersey
Submitted on November 22nd, 2007 by gravel08njMy efforts in NJ to get over a 1,000 signatures has failed. :-(
I wasn't able to gain ANY traction as anyone I speak to here has a fetish for Ron Paul.

I feel your pain. Have you
Submitted on November 23rd, 2007 by BamaGravelianI feel your pain. Have you been in contact with Eli Israel at eleonai.israel@yahoo.com or eli@gravel2008.us? He is the official ballot coordinator of the campaign. I wish I had known about him earlier, but by the time I did, it was way too late. If there is still time to reach the deadline, don't give up hope. You might be able to get significant help if you get the word out to HQ.
New Jersey seems like a significant enough state to make an announcement on YouTube. I think this idea has been proposed several times, but I'll repeat it again anyway. (Couldn't hurt to e-mail Skyler either.)

Even if they love Ron Paul, they can still sign the petition if they believe that Sen. Gravel warrants consideration in an election. Its not like they're voting for him; they're just signing the petition to get him on the ballot. And if they're the democracy loving, anti-establishment/politics as usual people they claim to be, then they'd put Sen. Gravel on the ballot.
As much as I disagree with the other candidates, Ron Paul for example, if someone asked me for a signature to put him on the ballot, I would sign it, because I believe his candidacy warrants discussion and debate on a Republican primary ballot.

Submitted on November 17th, 2007 by jflThe latest, after Lynne's cheerful letter! I had had us down as being on the "ballot" iin Colorado... even though it, as some of the others are, is a caucus state. No matter. It's all good news! Thank you Lynne! Please make a habit out of dropping us all a line now and then, spreading the good news, whatever it may be. And thank you Eli for all the good work that I know you've done to accomplish this. There's more and more green all the time. And that is the REAL accomplishment of the campaign so far, in my opinion. Now it's up to we the people to VOTE! and to get out the vote.
michigan primary up in the air

A lower court ruled and the appeals court in Michigan upheld the lower court ruling that the January 15th primary date change is unconstitutional. It is not known at this time if those lobbying for the January 15th primary will go all the way to the Michigan Supreme Court. Stay tuned.
Interesting
Submitted on November 17th, 2007 by jflInteresting... I will stay tuned. And google the situation. Unconstitutional?
... back from a google, Court Rejects Early Michigan Primary
Damn right it's unconstitutional!
The legislature might "fix" the law... but time's running out and I can easily imagine them letting it slide... along with themselves back into the good graces of the DNC.

Though, he needs 1,000 signatures to stay on.
Also, it really is the caucuses that counts in Washington.
California...
Submitted on November 1st, 2007 by seventy-oneAs jfl pointed out, a candidate needs to be recognized by the Secretary of State to be on the ballot (the easiest way of getting on the ballot). According the SOS website:
Criteria for determining "generally-recognized" candidates include, but are not limited to:
a. Being generally recognized as seeking and advocated for the office
b. Qualifying for federal matching funds
c. Appearing in public opinion polls, candidates' forums, debates, etc.
d. Being on the ballot in other states' primaries
e. Actively campaigning in California
f. Having a campaign office in California
g. The Secretary of State may also rely on advice and input from the state party chair.
He certainly meets criteria a, b, and d. c is funny because it relies on the Senator being included in the debates (there will be one in L.A. on the 10th, that the Senator needs to be in, but the debate will take place after the SOS announces candidates on the ballot).
I don't know how often he's campaigned in California, but if the previous debate exclusion is any indication, he should at least announce his campaign trips ex post facto, so there's no mixup there. I know he was here recently, but not for a long period of time.
I also don't know whether or not he has a campaign office in the state. And I also don't know who the state party chair is.
But if the campaign could clear some of this stuff up, that'd be great.

There is a form at http://www.gravel2008.us/volunteer which collects the information necessary to sign petitions to get Mike on state ballots ! Some ballots anyway.
Who knows, it might not be immediately filed in the bit bucket!
Give it shot anyway. One more bit of the finite wager with the infinite payoff.

Submitted on October 12th, 2007 by jflI wrote to jpeters some time back and just now received an answer to my question on the status of Mike and the state ballots :
So far, Mike is on the Colorado ballot, the Utah ballot, the South Carolina ballot and the Florida ballot. Many of them are just simply pay a fee or be recognized nationally to get on. However, states like New York and Virginia require signatures. Call our office -- 703 652-4698-- and ask to speak with Jose Rodriguez. He will be able to fill you in on more details.
So jpeters sounds unworried. He had previously stated that Mike was already on the MI ballot and that NY and FL had been filed. I hope there is nothing to worry about.

I have updated the table below with you information. The first 2 sentences in your posting seem strangely redundant... is there another state that I've missed?
Now I will see what I can do to get Mike on the ballot in TX, where I vote.
Of course, others ought to do the same in their own states.
