AFL-CIO

In yet another attempt to marginalize Mike Gravel in the campaign for president 2008, the AFL-CIO gave the top 7 Democratic presidential candidates (there are only 8!) a list of 15 cities to choose from for town hall meetings leading up to the labor organization's endorsement for president. It doesn't take a rocket scientist to know who is the odd man out, thanks to mainstream media. If there are 15 cities to choose from, why couldn't all 8 candidates hold town hall meetings? Unflipping believable. Top 7 of 8 candidates! Maybe a letter-writing campaign to the AFL-CIO might get them to reconsider him. It worked in the New Hampshire debate...

Still not invited?

Are you still not invited to the next democratic forum at AFL-CIO? I'm surprised more isn't being done about this! This was a supposed reponse from them -

neither Gravel nor any of the Republican candidates responded to our questionnaire, despite multiple follow-ups.  We have responses from all the others.

Is this true? Please, let us know if we should continue to push for Gravels invite. I want to start a petition, but I'm not sure where your campaign team stands on this.

Please, let me know if I should put my efforts else where.

Thank you

Mike...

I've written letters and called people to urge the AFL-CIO to include you in the debate. I hope they do. You are my hero and are the only candidate who deserves to sit in the Whitehouse.

"Working families Vote 2008" forums - Mike

This was my email to those on the posted list (...@aflcio.org):

In that there are 8 nationally recognized Democratic Presidential Candidates, why are there only 7 participating at your Aug. 7 forum? Was Mike Gravel invited to participate or was he intentionally excluded?
If the exclusion was intentional, please tell me why?
If, in fact, he has been intentionally excluded, I urge you to do what you can to influence "the powers that be" to extend an invitation to him as well as an apology for the exclusion.
Respectfully,

This was the reply from Naomi Walker (NWalker@aflcio.org):

This forum is a part of our endorsement process.  Our goal is to hear from candidates who are serious about changing our country to work for working people and who are seeking the endorsement of working families.  We have invited all those candidates who have indicated strong support for working families -- including, as a threshold, responding to our candidate questionnaire.  Neither Gravel nor any of the Republican candidates responded to our questionnaire, despite multiple follow-ups.  We have responses from all the others.

If, in fact, neither Mike nor his campaign staff responded, could we hear from staff so that we "Mike Gravel supporters "can let the issue go? I'm new to this forum and don't know how to reach the campaign staff. Suggestions?

AFL-CIO Forum Aug. 7 in Chicago

I'm incensed at the action of the AFL-CIO regarding the exclusion of Mike in their Aug. 7 Forum in Chicago. This is the web page on their site which lists the 7 candidates scheduled to be in the forum:  http://www.aflcio.org/issues/politics/presidentialforum.cfm

In response to the question on this forum, "Is it too late." It's never too late to let AFL-CIO know that we are upset with their exclusion of Mike so let's send emails to all those on the posted lists on this forum. Thanks to Rymang and Rydax for posting these email addresses. Let's think positively that if we muster enough contacts, they will do the right thing and invite Mike!!

Has anyone received a response from emails they have sent to people on this list?

As a member of the AFL-CIO and an active member of my local labor club, which goes door to door for pro-labor candidates, I want to know if there is a specific reason why Mike Gravel has been disenfranchised from your Working Families Vote 2008”.

Through following Gravel I have learned that he had a 100% pro-labor vote while in Congess; he is also vocal about fixing the problems with NAFTA, which has been horrible for the labor movement.

Thanks in advance for any consideration and information you can offer.
