That’s it, I’m sick and tired of all this dilly dallying.Thank God for Gravel and the two young men who helped him make these videos!!!The rock video makes me want to make a splash and disturb some waters.Read here what I have been trying to clue people in on in the thread that started under the rock video on youtube:
"Lxvlx, I apologize for initiating comments that led to the wildness of this thread.Sincerely, I do apologize especially since I never intended this to happen.I might have been open to the possibility that this was going to happen, but it was never my intention for it to actually occur. However, since you asked a half-decent question…namely “wtf is this shit”, I will attempt to clarify…
After watching the clip, I browsed down the page and started reading the comments.I’ve been doing some research recently (feel free to type the terms into a search engine if you’re curious enough to start some of your own research) dealing with:
“cointelpro”, “peak oil”, “kurt vonnegut, jr.”, “the 16th amendment”, “gnostics”, “NWO”, “ponerology”, “9/11 truth movement” (what’s that all about anyway?), “pathocracy”, “disinformation”, “howard zinn”, “psychopaths”, “Carla Emery Hypnotism” (and while your at it, what is even MORE interesting after this one is…”Carla Emery” WHAAAAAT!!!! never saw that one coming.), “sustainable development”, “PNAC”, claims of “Zionists” taking over the world (what is THAT all about????)”, “freedom to fascism”, “real id act”, “representative roscoe bartlett”, “alex jones” (who the hell IS this guy?), “krishnamurti”, “adbusters magazine”, “the 2000 election”, “michael moore”, “great transition initiative”, “2012 (what is this supposed to be all about?)”
I can stop there and feel satisfied, even though I could probably go on for quite some time. The point is…the point IS NOT TO THE EFFECT THAT EACH OF THESE TERMS HAS ITS OWN LITTLE STORY TO TELL OR INFORMATION TO SHARE, BUT THE FACT THAT THEY EXIST IN THE FIRST PLACE WITH ENORMOUS AMOUNTS OF CONTROVERSY SURROUNDING THE TERMS.
…Okay…let’s step back for like 2 seconds here and ask ourselves this…
“After knowing consciously in my own human heart that I have been sincere to myself, have not deceived myself, and have done a thoroughly objective scan of all this material I have been presented with, WHAT SHOULD I TRUST - THE GOVERNMENT’S TAKE ON REALITY OR AN OBJECTIVE TAKE ON REALITY?”(hmmm, the government tries its best to make sure I think everything is hunky dory “keep going on with your lives” even though “terrorists want to kill you” and “everything will be fine”.“DHS and FEMA will protect you.” By now, this seems pretty peculiar since the people affected by hurricane Katrina obviously had their reality of ‘everything will be fine’ ahhh…yea, blown away and washed up)
I obviously understand this stuff takes a while to take all in & digest & examine & figure out & what not, however, as far as I am concerned…
After reading the thread in its entirety back when this video had around 85,000 views (I think it was) my curiosity meter was peaked and I decided to go all in.This is the way I (IMHO) observe the situation objectively:I first found out about Gravel after watching the 1st democratic debate at the end of April.Whatever…time passes…doesn’t matter what I did…and then I happen to notice Wolf Blizter on CNN advertising to “stay tuned” so that I could see Gravel’s weird video that just got some attention.I’m patient, so I kept doing whatever it was that I was doing and just waited for Wolf to finally get to the Gravel segment.I watched the segment and then proceeded to check the video out for myself on Gravel’s webpage, but it wasn’t located there, so I proceeded to go directly to youtube. So…after I decided to go all in, I then experienced the same thing as everyone else here has experienced.
You know what?It turns out that “wtf is this shit” is probably the most insightful question asked thus far!
The bottom line is that I really would like to live and experience a reality with Mike Gravel as President of the United States. Therefore, since I am so serious about making my desire become a reality for me, I must figure out ways to make this happen.Every other Gravel supporter (it seems like at least from the discussions on the forums over on his website) understands that there are certain powers-that-be who don’t find Gravel a very exciting opportunity for them.
(Did I mention that these people are also the same one’s who have all that ridiculous amounts of money you keep hearing about people owning?)So I perfectly understand why there would be certain people passionate about making sure I don’t come across as making any sense. And you ask, how is it possible that I feel so strongly for my humble opinion???
Because the best tactic to use, when you are dealing with a media manipulated, dumbed-down public, is trying to convince them that the person who is actually making a whole hell of a lot of sense, is ACTUALLY CRAZY!This is the type of manipulation the Gravel campaign will have to deal with if any of US are at all SERIOUS about getting him into office."
Now…I want all of you supposed SERIOUS supporters out here to go and disturb the fucking waters for Christ’s sake!! LIFE IS NOT AMERICAN IDOL!!! GET YOUR HEADS OUT OF YOUR ASSES!!!! DOES GRAVEL MOVE YOU??? HAVE YOU BEEN SITTING THERE DOING JACK SHIT, MEANWHILE OUR COUNTRY IS HEADING DOWN THE TUBES??? WHAT THE FUCK ARE YOU PEOPLE DOING??? WAKE UP! WAKE UP! WAKE UP!!!!
Hey, everyone, pay attention to the comments section on these videos. I have been posting to the rock video and attempting, you could say, to 'set things straight'. My handle is openyouriandsee.
If anything, the commentary makes for good objective observation of how different individuals respond. If I was a betting man, I would go ALL IN on saying that COINTELPRO is very well alive and active on this forum as well.
EVERYONE, please use common sense, be as SINCERELY OBJECTIVE as you can, don't lose HOPE, and we might just be able to win this.
These two unbelievably daring and creative videos have sent yet ANOTHER ripple through the collective pond. We can do this folks...just keep at it! Don't underestimate the significance and IMPACT of the most powerful communications technology since the Printing Press (the Internet!)
I thought they were both ingenius 2 video's from a presidential candidate for people to look for their inner spirit within themselves and connection to the world around them I'm a rep and certainly can appericiate it. Its too bad that the multi-billion dollar MSM cannot report what the true meaning of these videos are he clearly won both Democratic debates and deserves much better treatment than he has recieved
The guy should shorten "Fire" to 4:47 seconds that way it is just as long as Billy Joel's We Didn't Start the Fire, unless there is something significant in 7:41
Absolutely Brilliant!!! After the Daily Show ran "Rock" - as the "Moment of Zen" last night - I heard from 3 people who asked me who that was? I directed them to www.gravel08.us. This morning I heard from all 3 saying that now they plan to vote for Mike - and one of them put "Rock" on his MySpace page.
I was kinda watching it and at the very end of the episode I saw what looked like Mike walking away after dropping the rock in the lake... If I am right and it was at the end of the show.. It would probably be "your moment of Zen." How great is that??
I like both of them, especially the Rock one (it's genius)! There should be more videos like this that break the mold.
As we see from some other comments, you can't please everyone. Some people want a politician to only be and act like a politician. It's really refreshing that Mike Gravel has a great sense of humor and appreciation for spicing it up.
"Rock" is a real attention getter. And don't think for a second that just because some find it funny or odd that they'll think Gravel is just a joke. In case anyone wasn't aware, mainstream media already pegged him that way. Did that stop anyone who was intrigued enough to then learn more about Gravel and realize what an amazing person he is and president he would be? No, it stopped none of us. In fact, it helped us reach more people.
When you have little money, you can't win the great war of online attention with a "play it safe" attitude. Throw traditions out the window. Playing it safe won't get this campaign anywhere. It will take reaching out to and provoking lots of small niche interests: not just trying to appeal to the populace as a whole. And that's an example of what these videos do. They get the attention of more people, many of whom probably like a bit of "absurdism" and appreciate a candidate who's beholden to no one's mold. I certainly appreciate it.
Do not be discouraged by some people who don't like it. I have to laugh that Gravel is in his 70s and exponentially cooler and more open-minded than 99% of the people half his age. Keep rocking it w/ various viral media! You'll be glad you did.
I have encountered pathetic campaign workers - think Nader 2000 campaign, from the director on down - but this really takes the cake.
It is hard to believe that a campaign manager authorized this piece of self-destructive imbecillity. A moronic narcissit who wormed his way in as a volunteer, maybe. But a hierarchy that actively works to make the candidate look like a loon and confirm the only effective slur that his detractors have leveled at him?
The very least Mike Gravel can do is fire the 'volunteer' who talked him into shooting these absurdist videos, and whoever was in the loop higher up and approved this politically suicidal act. He'll be lucky if he recovers, even then.
New to the web and so-called "YouTube Generation", I take it? :-P
Little attention-grabbing things like this don't wreck politicians who have nothing to fear. They enhance awareness. They also can garner a bit of respect among people who want a "real person" for a candidate who'd even be willing to do something out of the ordinary.
Even a great outcome in this whole race would be if Gravel sets himself as the "3rd voice" (Clinton, Barack, Gravel) to which the others are forced to listen. That's better than nothing. It would mean getting the message out to more people and his base would increase. You've gotta throw some big stones in the pond to do that.
Anyway, it'd be one thing if Gravel was doing this and didn't have any substance in his campaign, once people go looking. That's not the case.
As far as the demographic group you refer to is concerned, Mike Gravel is now a 'Moment of Zen.'
The American Left is demonstrably the dumbest in the western world. At the start of any race, its first priority is to tie its shoelaces together.
The candidate who came out of the first debate with a bang is already in a media meltdown. There will be no recovery from the people he allowed to invade his campaign. These mindless, clueless, destructive narcissists are feeling proud, adventurous, and ahead of their time. Just ahead of schedule to the slag-heap of history.
Beyond the irreparable harm done to a good man with good ideas, this was an act of open contempt for the country that he might have served. The future of the Republic and freedom? War, peace, and nuclear treaties? The stability of the climate? Who cares? All of this pales in comparison with the brilliant piece of communication that got Mike Gravel universal attention for behaving like a doddering old fool.
Good-bye, Mike Gravel, we hardly knew ye. But YouTube will never forget you.
If the people in America are going to vote for someone else because Mike is is in a video that they don't "get", then we really don't need them. I believe that people will vote on the Issues and Mike is far ahead of the rest in that field. If the majority of America doesn't vote for Mike because of those videos, then America deserves to be in the condition it is in.
I think this ad shows Gravel's life in a nutshell. A man who stares into the lens of truth, maybe longer then people think he should, and then he goes and takes action, leaving his impact. This impact causes a rippling effect, it stretches out and eventually dies out, and lake is forever changed (an interesting thing is how near the end the darkness that was covering the pond had lifted to show light).
But eventually the impact dies down, and the hero who made the impact is gone, and few remember him, some can see his figure in the distance, maybe still remember his name, but the details we had so clearly when he was here is gone.
When Gravel stood against Nixon, the impact was great, but now that it is history few hardly remember but still enjoy the effects.
It can also represent the fact that Gravel is asked to stand before the people, and he is forced to be silent, but when he gets the opportunity he makes a splash, in a very short amount of time. Then moves on to the next pond.
His demeanor was not that of a crazed man, it was that of one saddened, hopeless... as many Americans feel... and then he does something to release that sadness and destroy the forced silence. Hell, it's almost like that Orwellian scene that is ever so popular... Remember the one with the woman running up to the screen and throwing that object at the screen? View them together.
At least he did it in an original and indirect way... unlike Obama's Campaigners who made a blunt 1984 reference.
"The American Left is demonstrably the dumbest in the western world."
Something tells me that you're not exactly a supporter of any democrat to begin with. Yes, Gravel came out with a bang. Then the media tried to knock him down just for being so honest and tough. They tried to attribute words like "doddering" and "fool" to him just like you're doing now. And what basis was there then and what basis is there now? There is no basis.
Creating a bit of performance art does not a doddering fool make. Words like "doddering" seem to be symptomatic of age discrimination more than anything. YouTube is just one part of the big landscape. If you need 100%, 24/7 politics, take a look into Gravel's stance on
all the issues. Either you recognize that he's "the one" or you don't.
I'm a bit surprised that anyone would take a video like "Rock" (which has some strong meaning behind it) with such a prudish view but then I read a little between the lines of what you're saying...
"Beyond the irreparable harm done to a good man with good ideas, this
was an act of open contempt for the country that he might have served."
I'd like to see a slideshow of Mike's pictures since he was a kid/teenager.
I think his campaign misses to capitalize on his army (intel) and senate record. There must be some archive footage of him during the filibuster, appearring before Supreme Court and other "high impact" events.
"High Impact"... like throwing a Rock into a pond, and when that pond settles and the man who threw it there is gone, did it even happen? Will people forget who threw the rock or that a rock was even thrown?
I though it was interesting after watching a clip or two of Obama talking and saying absolutely nothing of substance, to watch the Gravel videos.
The overall reaction created some movement, but generated a large amount of WTF, think the poll numbers dropped somewhat as some people felt they could not take the campaign seriously. A lot of people are too shallow to look into the matter further.

Saw some clever overlays of those videos with music/text and cuts. A large stone makes a huge splash and vanishes, a small stone ripples forever. Nice to see a group of people making a contribution, one by one, as a tribute. Lots of possibilities.
I think it is important to maintain momentum, so I am curious what the next campaign video will be. Will it be on the same lines of thoughtful meditation, or will the candidate choose to speak. Interesting because the ads are so quiet, yet when he is engaged by the camera on stage he is so focused.
Also watching youtube for supporter made videos and tributes.
Some genius should set up a video positions page, so that specific candidate comments/positions can be compared and contrasted on an issue by issue basis.
