Mike is trouncing all of the other candidates -- both Democrats AND Republicans -- in a poll sponsored by the pro-military site VAJoe.com. You can read the results here.

According to the site, the survey matches "you with candidates based upon how closely you align with their opinions on the issues, as well as how relevant those issues are to you."

My actual choice is Mike Gravel, Ron Paul, None of the Above. In that order.

Former Alaska Senator Mike Gravel (D) 96.55% match

I like this format, since most people have no idea why they are voting for a particular candidate, other than personality or name recognition or party-affiliation.

Most Top-Matched Candidates:

I got a 91% alignment with

I got a 91% alignment with Mike Gravel which im not suprized at all given that I researched every candidate well and know who im voting for.  I agree with you Shawn, i think alot of people dont know much about there candidate and end up voting who the media shoves down there throat, or buying into the propaganda that just because there candidate knows about a problem they know how to solve it.  Mike Gravel knows how to take action, make effective changes, and isnt scared to do it.

If anything comes from thsi poll/caculator/quiz I hope people look deeper into what they support instead of buying into the hype.

I will send this to everyone I know

 Because I like this match!

Mike Gravel 98.15% match

Dennis Kucinich 94.44% match

John Edwards 75.93% match

Barack Obama 73.15% match

Hillary Clinton 72.22% match

Joe Biden 70.37% match

Chris Dodd 68.52% match

Bill Richardson 62.96% match

Ron Paul 47.22% match

Just took it!!!

The link didn't work for me.  Here is another link :  http://www.vajoe.com/candidate_calculator.html

I just took the poll and got Mike as my top pick,  86.96%!  Go Mike!  If only they had an option for the National Initiative.  Anyways he is really kicking ass!!  Here is the standings now.  Percentage based on Most top matched.

Gravel - 43.22%

Kucinich - 22.88%

Thompson - 4.43%

Paul 4.14%

Everyone else is under 4%.  Obama is 2.53%, Clinton 1.51%, Edwards .55% and McCain, in last place .47%.

Everyone should take it and see what they get.  Mike is KILLING.

Vote for Mike Gravel, anything else would be insanity!

The Calculator is NOT a poll

The calculator simply shows you the candidate you match up with on the issues.  It's NOT a poll. It just seems more people are in line with Gravel on the issues than anyone else.

poll or not a poll

i respectfully disagree...this is a poll far more accurate and telling about the issues that the electorate cares about and which candidates align with those issues than any so-called 'poll' that the MSM throws out into our faces to swallow mindlessly.

if there were more 'polls' like this, we would be seeing a far different political landscape. which is most likely the reason why there are not more 'polls' (or surveys or however else you wish to define it) like this out there.

it would behoove all of us gravel supporters to spread this link far and wide, not to push our preferred candidate, but rather to give people an opportunity to understand which candidate best aligns with their core beliefs. i think the answer will surprise many out there, and just might translate into actual votes.

Took it!!

I took the poll and I got Gravel WOOT.  Keep on fighting Mike =)

RE: WOOT?

I also took the vote. And the voting machine suggested Kucinich as the candidate most suited for my preferences. Sen. Gravel seems to be getting a bad treatment or it is programed with a faulty tilt. By the way, what is WOOT? Thanks.

Interesting...

If you check each one:

Yes- You Get Rudy Guiliani

No- You Get Ron Paul

Unsure- You Get Joe Biden

HA!

If you just say no to everything you get Ron Paul. How freakin accurate is that?

Steer clear

>>If you just say no to everything you get Ron Paul. How freakin accurate is that?

What is it about Ron Paul that readers of this blog don't understand? It seems that some contributors here have failed to perform due diligence to the facts when they spout on about this non-candidate who is clearly racist, homophobic, and anti-Constitution. I've read suggestions that Mike Gravel and Ron Paul team up. What nonsense.

Is this a charter of the "net roots" crowd: support anyone who will shred the federal government?

In an interview recently Paul was asked to name the federal agencies he would do away with. He suggested that the answer would take a lot less air time if instead he named the few that he'd retain.  I have no particular love for many of the 3-letter acronym agencies here in the US, but their fundamental purposes are good.  What's needed is to clean them out, revitalize them, and lead the charge with mature and moral leadership.

He is a strong libertarian who believes that the role of our government is not to help the people. Instead, he feels we should be free enough to help each other. His reliance on basic human kindness is fine, but it's not a high point of our culture. We need structures to protect individual rights and to distribute our common good fairly to all.  When we take care of our own, true freedom is achieved.

Most of Paul's answers are "no" except if there's "gun" in the question.  Empowerment to Paul means liberating people from the weapons laws.  A few pistol-totin' rednecks on those planes would have prevented the WTC attack through a nice western-style gunfight at 34,000 feet.  Eminently logical, but grossly impractical.  Does this translate to giving everyone nukes so we are all on an equal playing field of destruction?  What a way to live!

Along with the guns he brings an odd religious twist: more than suggesting that the US is a "christian" nation, he's ready to tear down the wall of separation, ban abortion, and make marriage "between one man and one woman". Prayer in public school is not far behind.  Think we have too much with the "faith" (nonsense)-based initiative"?  Paul would surpass the current bush maladministration in its pursuit of theocracy.  Irony - in Ron Paul's world we all have freedom, yet we will live under a government-sponsored christian tyranny because he believes, completely erroneously, that the US was founded by a bunch of preachers.

His alignments with Mike Gravel are few and those that do so are for very different reasons. It's no surprise that if you select No for all the questions he appears as the choice.

No is a good answer as in NO to Ron Paul.

I don't

I don't like Paul if that is what you were thinking . I'm actually the one who started the threads stating the differences between him and Mike. Some of which you just covered. have a really big thread the got a ton of posts awhile back. I just thought it was funny the all no's will give you RP. Very appropriate since most everything he votes on he votes no. Gave me a good laugh.

dr. no knows nose

whether or not you agree with dr. paul on the issues, he is a man of impeccable integrity, much like mr. gravel. his record in congress and the speeches that he has given on the floor there demonstrate that.

you don't have to like him or believe what he stands for, but it would behoove anyone that believes that a radical change is needed in the political spectrum of the country to root for him in the republican primary, just to shake things up a bit over there. remember, he is the only candidate in that party that is vehemently for ending the war in iraq.

just imagine the grumblings within the republican party if dr. no started making waves in the primaries. if nothing else, it would be sheer comedy....

Ha, ha! Yes!

Ha, ha! Yes!

Times have changed. We are going to empower the American people. Let’s work together. I am tough. I’m not afraid. None of this politics as usual. Mike Gravel

I took the quiz also...

And I also got Mike Gravel for my top pick, a 96.15% match.

I suppose that this indicates that many people would find that they agree with Mike Gravel a great deal, if only they would take him seriously enough to examine his views.

issues vs. 'electibility'

<I suppose that this indicates that many people would find that they agree with Mike Gravel a great deal, if only they would take him seriously enough to examine his views.>

this is a profoundly astute point which illustrates the paradoxical conundrum that the good senator faces in his campaign. at the abc debate, george snuffaluffpigus (with his trademark smirk) noted that mr. gravel is 'polling' at less than 1%. that's right, less than 1%.

when i mentioned this over at the huffington post where they are all squabbling over hillary or no hillary, they all had a million and one excuses why they would not vote for mr. gravel, even though most admitted that he (and dennis kucinch) was the candidate most closest aligned their personal views and concerns.

this genius poll (cheers to those who created it) further illustrates this point.

so the question as i see it for the gravel campaign is how to translate this allegiance into votes in the primaries. it's obvious that the electorate has been completely 'swindled' (using john mellencamp's word) into believing that voting for anyone outside the party mainstream is a wasted vote, even in the primaries, where even a moderate showing for a candidate can influence the party platform at the convention.

most democrats still have not learned the lesson from 2004 where a truly wasted vote is a 'lesser than 2 evils' vote, and not one birthed from conscience and personal conviction.

how can the campaign begin to change this mindset in the electorate, so that votes in the primaries can more accurately reflect this survey rather than the 'polls' that the MSM are shoving down everyone's throats?

a question that i throw out to everyone here, so that perhaps we can collectively throw around some ideas and suggestions that might prove helpful to the campaign.
