CNN/Youtube Debate July 23rd

CNN and YouTube.com are teaming up to host the next Democratic Presidential Forum on Monday, July 23 at 7 p.m EST, which will be broadcast live from the Citadel in Charleston, S.C. Senator Gravel is proud to be a part of this historic debate. So tune in to cheer on the Senator as he demonstrates his strong leadership to the nation and speaks truth to power!

Outsider comment

I consider myself an outsider, as I have never really voted Democrat before. However, I saw the debate from YouTube, and I felt it was rediculous. I think Gravel could have been engulfed and flames and recieved no more air time. If I were to have to make a choice between the candidates I saw at that debate, Mike Gravel would get my vote (much to the chagrin of my sister, who is a big Kucinich supporter.) At least I know where he stands and I could trust him.

Please give some feed back =)

I wanted to thank Jaywin for putting up this chat channel so we can organize live chat sessions. If you could please go to the link below and comment about what time you would like or have available so we can have a live chat session with more Gravel supporters being involved. This will be a good way to get some ideas bouncing on how we are going to ROCK THE BOAT AND HAVE GRAVEL WIN BY A LAND SLIDE IN 08" =)

Chat

There is chat going on right now anyone on is welcome to join in on the discussions =)

You're very welcome!

Here's the  link for those interested in this chat channel:

I don't think you have to, but just in case!

And just to give credit where credit is due, admin created the #gravel2008 IRC channel on irc.freenode.net back in May. I just requested that it be added to the above link a couple of days ago! Thanks admin!

My times.

I'm typically on about 4pm eastern and come and go till 6 or 7 if anyone is on and looking to talk. Maybe we could schedule a chat for like.. 9 or 10, should be a good amount of people available then.

Vote for Mike Gravel, anything else would be insanity!

RE: Wikia

Rydex, I tried the page a little whil ago but it was so slow.
Hopefully, I'll catch you next time.
What I wanted to discuss was about the placement of the candidates on the stage.
Shouldn't that be determined by a random draw?
There must be a fair system and I wonder if Sen. Gravel could make that point in one of his Huffinton Post, postings? Also, everywhere else.
Any suggestions on this?

I Have an Idea on How to get the Ball Rolling for "Gravel Chat"

I have an idea to get the ball rolling on this thing. I figure that a lot of people might go to #gravel2008, but might turn around and leave if they don't see anyone there. So my suggestion is to go to the Gravel Chat in a separate window, and even if there's nobody (or hardly anybody) there, minimize that window. (Of course, if somebody's there and you both want to chat, go for it!) But even if you don't want to chat, minimize the window...that way if people show up, they'll be more likely to stay at the chat if they see that there's a lot of people there.

RE: Chat

Jaywin, thanks for the chat channel. I did sign up with the channel but, I must admit, not having done this kind of thing before, I might need help.
Hopefully not. I am very happy about this new mode.

lets fillibuster for mike....23days to go

the next democratic debate is in 23days.  This week is mike's spotlight on youtube..If we want to see a drastic turnaround in the ratings and the way things are, we honestly have another 23days to do it.  the time really is now....

My suggestion :
1. We need to write 3 versions of a letter.  A letter proclaming support for mike and how you want to see more of him.
2. Then copy paste that letter and send it to,
Late show, David Letterman.
Daily show, Jon stewart
Oreilly factor
Colbert report
situation room
larry king
cbs/msnbc/cnn/fox
*any show you can think of which will help boost ratings...

and sure they might delete or ignore our first mail.....but then we mail again....we mail all of them every single day, twice if we have time....we fight like mike fights....we fillibuster his media blackout....

So lets say a 100 of us do this....5mails a day....do the math....by the august 19th debates we will have over 10,000 mails sent to the media in support for mike....they cany ignore that can they....

and why a 100? on facebook and youtube mike has almost 2000 supporters....even if half of them sign on, its a 100,000 mails....

The copy-paste-send takes around 10min everyday.....its free...
and it lets us actively do something....enough talk all around...lets pile the pressure on NOW>>>>>>clocks ticking...godspeed

Letters to the media

Hi quest67, I just sent this to the Letterman show. I'll write a separate letter to each station. Hope this is okay or write me some suggesions, you may have, and then that will help me. Thanks!

Dear Mr. Letterman:
I am writing this note as a supporter of Sen. Gravel.
During the past debates Sen. Gravel was hardly given time to get his views across to the audience. He doesn't have a huge campaign budget as the leading candidates.
We can only depend on any other avenue of exposure that is available to us and there aren't many.
It would be appreciated if you could help us with some air time for Sen. Gravel on your show for a few words. You will find that what Sen. Gravel has to say has nothing at all to do with any of the other candidates and for that reason alone he would make a wonderful guest on your show and Sen. Gravel will be seen by millions !!! What Sen. Gravel speaks of is a must hear and I'm sure you'll agree once you have Sen. Gravel as a guest. All we need is to be heard and given a fair chance to do that.
Love your show! With thanks.
Truly,aqvinas

That was a debate, gloria?

That was a debate?

Gloria Vanderbilt son produced the Obama & Hillary show not a debate.

How can america proclaim not to say enforce, for other countries, the democracy they dont have. That cnn show looked like a 3rd world dictatorship court.

It would be a national scandal in any european country to have a debate where SOME candidates are simply ignored as if they aren't there, and cant touch all the questions.

i can understand giving more time to "major media" candidates and less time to "lesser known" on the basis of ratings criteria, but NEVER would IN ANY DEMOCRATICAL COUNTRY debate members not have a chance to speak about all the issues.

gravel was the most hurt of all with little time and little questions but in the little time and few oportunities he had , he did great, made me proud to be human, and did a few great soundbites. Coz thats all they allowed him to. And the moment of the night is his also, when he faced a poisoned question (the only containing a veiled insult "flipflop")

keep it up mr balls of steel. if america doesnt love you, you can be sure others do.

Unfortunately for the world, its important how USA swings, and you could make a difference for the better.

gravel support from portugal

Obama v. Clinton

It's funny that two days after the debate, Obama is going after Clinton using  the same arguments that Mr. Gravel used against him during the so-called debate.

http://firstread.msnbc.msn.com/archive/2007/07/25/290301.aspx

He's also reusing an argument used by Mr. Gravel against Clinton regarding her signing of the war authorization. And they say Gravel is crazy! Then again, it's not that surprising... It was Gandhi who said: First they ignore you, then they ridicule you, then they fight you, then you win.

The fight has yet to begin. It looks like they'll go after one another first.

Will Mike be going to this? According to this article (dated July 20), nobody has agreed to go. I hope Senator Gravel will go...and Hillary & Obama don't!

Let's Ask the Iowa Debate Moderators to Be More Fair than CNN !

This debate will be on August 19. Let's let them know how disgusted we all are about the CNN/YouTube "debate", and ask that they do better! All candidates should get EQUAL TIME ! No more "Hillary & Obama" Shows!

sent the mail.....hope they listen....do you know which channel they august debates will be on?

On ABC's "This Week" with George Steph, I believe

I know for sure it's going to be on ABC, and George Stephanopalous is moderating it. (I hope he's a little more respectful and professional than he was with Mike's interview a few weeks back.)

Troops Died In Vain

I think everyone missed the point of what Mike was saying. What was the point of all the death and destruction in Viet Nam if it accomplished nothing? The same goes for Iraq. Of course all the other candidates flipped the meaning and gave their standard "I support the troops" answer because politics and appearance are more important than telling the truth. Even today, Bush is attempting to mask reality with his cries of wolf about al qaeda in Iraq. Does anyone in this idiotic government remember that al qaeda is actually in Afghanastan and Pakistan? Or that Bush minimized all efforts at capturing bin Laden to spend our resources getting involved in the mess called Iraq?

hey guys

hey everyone I'm the guy that asked Gravel the question abotu Vietnam that that answered very well unlike Obama and Edwards who kind of danced around the issue.

Here's the clip from the debate!

Who all saw this and what did you think of his answer?

btw, I wasn't trying to challenge Gravel! I support him 100% and I just wanted to give him a question that I knew he would handle much better than the other candidates, showing off his knowledge and passion.

hey guys

I served two tours in the Vietnam war. Every soldier knew it was futile; every American who died there died in vain. What they died for was dogmatic political myth. WHY they died was because they were good soldiers, just like our mates in Iraq. The only ones responsible - the Vietnam war presidents and politicians - never apologized. After all, they personally made millions from it. The psychology is simple - make heros of the fallen, play the patriot card, ignore the inconvenient truth, and the public will simply come to the parade. Mike gave the only true answer. It was disgusting to hear the "top runners" equivocate and play "look at me" with CNN's help.

It's good to see young people like yourself with some clarity of thought, John. I hope you can infect many others with it.

rjw

John

I want you to know that I don't think anyone is mad at you for asking that question. I am personally mad because that is not something I wanted to know from him. I want him to talk about healthcare, taxes, global warming,ect... these are the issues that affect me not whether our troops died in vain. Not that I don't support our troops, it is that Mike has had enough trouble with the media and any derogator thing you put out whether meant that way or not will be used like it was last night. Try to keep that in mind when asking a bottom teir candidate a question, that will only bring them down harder. But you are absolutly right Gravel handled it like a PRO, I just wanted to see a better question thats all.

You Tube debate

I emailed CNN (again!) and voiced my frustrations about the lack of time given to Mr. Gravel. And then I went time.com and noticed a time card reporting on last nights debate. Of course they started with Barack (A-) and ended with Mike (D). And they also have a poll on their front page asking who won last night's debate- they list four candidates and guess who they were??? Hillary, Barack, Edwards and Biden. Shocking!! I emailed TIME (letters@time.com) and I suggest you do the same. Here's the email I sent:

"You have a poll on your front page asking who won last night's You Tube debate. Hillary Clinton, Barack Obama, John Edwards or Joe Biden. In that order. And that's it. Um, call me crazy but what about the other four candidates? Oh, I forgot- they're not real candidates. Because they don't have the money backing them. The money from companies like yours. It's no surprise the CNN debates have been biased. They're in bed with you! Why do you get to decide who the "real" candidates are? I've lost all faith in mainstream media. I don't know how you sleep at night. I really don't."

good stuff man.....we have

good stuff man.....we have to keep the pressure up...hope they listen.....

Here is a Video

Here is a video of Mike on the MSNBC show this morning. I am so glad they let him answer some questions=)

RE: MSNBC video

blueyes20, thanks for the post. I have been looking for this on the web. I don't have a television.
I am still fuming at the cnn imitatation debate. Sen. Gravel is on fire in this MSNBC interview.
Go Gravel !

Only 2

I have been watching Gravel for some time now not as long as most on this page, but I finally came around. I wanted to Thank the 2 media outlets that in my opinion gave Gravel the most fair interveiws those thanks go to.

1) THE MORNING SHOW

2) JOE from MSNBC

Thank you again for standing out and being the most fair reports to date=)

P.S. I now only watch MSNBC, I suggest everyone stops watching CNN and go to a place where there really may be accurate news. Oh sorry and the local BOSTON news that allow Gravel to speak to the people and didn't even interupt him.

http://www.thebostonchannel.com/politics/12632738/detail.html

I talked to them.

I talked to the girls for The Morning Show on myspace two days ago, and they told me they are already working on having Mike back on the show.  They have offered a full hour of uninterrupted air time to any candidate who wants it.  Turns out all of the others have reasons they can't do it.  Paul has too many prior commitments and doesn't have the time, I forget the other excuses.  I got them to vote for Mike on the face book poll and they also voted on the blog for Iowa thing.  They seem like some really good people.  I think they started out just wanting to give everyone a fair chance, but when the others ignored an avoided them,  I think Mike is looking better and better to them.

IT IS SO OBVIOUS!

Mike! You blew them out of the *#*ing water last night! Please, everyone who is reading this that has even the remotest notion that they may choose to participate in the electoral process VOTE FOR MIKE!!

At least 100 people have called me up and said "hey cubbie girl, i heard about your guy last night." and i'm like "it's about time!" People are starting to tune in to this. Mike , you kicked ass last night. Took it right at Barack. Exactly right. It's the last thing any of them want is to have to talk about the money. It's always the money.

Keep up the good hard work. Come to LA and have a party at my place. Let's spread the word. The revolution has arrived.

Morning rock radio

So I come into work this morning(the day after the youtube debate) and I heard something good on the radio. I work in a factory, it's noisy but we have a little radio, always on the local classic rock station. As I get to my work area I hear the radio doing a little news bite on the debate. I couldn't hear it clearly and my memory is a little hazy that early but the woman said something to the extent of "Not everyone was happy about the way way the debates were set last night, former Senator Mike Gravel got noticeably less time in the debates and was not happy." Again I have no idea what the words were but I know she mentioned Mike and the fact that the debates were ridiculously biased against him. What a way to start my morning!!

LISTEN UP: HRC and Obama and Edwards, etc. are from HEDGE FUNDS

Mikes get forward, get that sound right, UP THE BITE, before Blacula chews on us and sells you folk without experience a load of Hilary's used YELLOW SNOW-jobs.  Haven't they heard of Alaska, yet?

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Did you hear Gravel mention HEDGE FUNDS, in the second half hour?

The HEDGE FUNDS are for illegal bettors to play investor, to enable them to manipulate and control our illegal economy FOR YEARS, knowing the fat power deals of 2001 incited bin Laden in detail, while burying the mission plans under 15 FED hikes finished the election, as of 2006!

By finished I mean THE ELECTORAL PROCESS IS FLAT-OUT ILLEGAL, today.

Gravel may be the ONLY legally entitled candidate, in the slate!

Republicans who are WORSE than Goldwater Girl HRC or Bushwick Boy Obama are evident, from their hedging on the illegal BUDGETING, for illegal GANG WAR.

That the Senate is uninsurable by 2010 should be evident to most, but note that MIKE GRAVEL may be the ONLY candidate from either major party, who cannot be impeached, right AFTER an election or BARRED, right before an election, for taints.

If you are TAINTED and the 2008 crash happens, YOU SENATORS had better have an excuse, for letting the books cook, since the fat power deals, of  2001, to then BURN them, with 15 interest hikes from the fat FED, during GANG WARS over drugs, energy, and Islam.  USCA 1 is violated wholesale, by Christians and incited Jews, hacking away at islam, illegally funded, since 1948, illegally in colllusion with religious and corporate media, SINCE WHENEVER, tainted despicably.

The persistent GANG WARS masked as public policy mark 2008 as THE YEAR for reform.  As in, REFORM, OR ELSE THE CHINESE AND OTHER INTERNATIONAL BANKERS CAN LIEN THE HELL OUT OF US, IN 2009, DDs and your kids!  School's OUT, for YOU.

Your standing army violated the commerce clause one too many budgets, so learn to like online ed, broadband media, to heck with YOU and YOUR Mexican schoolchums, get the flu on your own time, WITHOUT ILLEGALLY FUNDED, COMPULSORY ATTENDANCE, TO HELP YOU CHURN UP PESTS, AND WITHOUT FUNDS FOR PESTHOLES.

We are ONE good 42 U.S.C. 1983 lawsuit away, from Gravel walks into the White House, or don't you sue?  28 U.S.C. 2254 or 2255 habeas may be enough, to convince a USDC Judge to issue order for CONTEMPT TRIALS!  Or, we watch the USA fall apart, without a President to help catch the pieces, and THAT IS MIKE GRAVEL.

??????

WHAT?? I don't talk in sound bites could you elaborate on each topic????

This guy is HARDCORE.  ---

This guy is HARDCORE.

Gravel is HARDCORE.

IT IS SO OBVIOUS!

Mike! You blew them out of the *#*ing water last night! Please, everyone who is reading this that has even the remotest notion that they may choose to participate in the electoral process VOTE FOR MIKE!!

Wonderful Job!

I was amazed how you shot from the hip... I think you gave about the best performance even though they screwed you out of time.

Thank you for all that you have done for people. The rule of elites must end.

RE: CNN Debate

Sen. Gravel, it is clear that these corporate hacks are going to give you as little time as they can because they can't bear to hear the truth. The false facade of decorum is laughable for those who know where their $$ come from. More and more people are coming around to the ugly reality DC and the arms industry has brought to the world: A lot of grief!
All these hypocrites are being exposed by you and everyone is running for cover and that is the reason to keep you as silent as they can.
Strip them bare, Senator!
Sen. Gravel, your courage is very appreciated! Thank you.

How democratic are we??

I liked what little I saw of

I liked what little I saw of Mike Gravel in last night's debate .. I think it would be very interesting (and a cheap way to get some free airplay) to go question by question and record a video response, and post them all on youtube. Then you can be heard on every question.

from reddit-voice of American Youth about the debate

this is quite interesting view about American Youth;

New to Gravel

Last Night:

I tune in a little late to the "YouTube" debate on CNN.  There are the usual suspects, some I like, most I don't.......but wait......who is this Gravel guy?

Holy cow!  He's.....making sense!  He's..........passionate!  He's........RIGHT!  And I don't mean that he is just correct, I mean he is RIGHT...for America.

While Obama dodged questions and Hillary changed her opinions (again!), while Richardson sweated his makeup onto his collar and touted the rights of the illegals, actually calling them AMERICANS at one point (which they are NOT, not yet, anyway), there is this Gravel guy, telling it like it has been begging to be told for years now. And I am wondering why I have not heard of him until now, chiding myself for not being more informed, and then he said it.  And IT went something like this:

If you want to know what life will be like with any of these other candidates in office, follow the money trail.

Wow! Someone actually said it! I mean, I am paraphrasing, but that was what I took from it. These candidates are funded by Wall Street, and that's who they dance for!  They don't care about you, or me, or the soldiers or the guy who lost his job because we gave it to someone in China....they dance with the dollars who brung them.

We need a President in our White House, not a celebrity. Gravel will have my vote!!!

Question posed at 7-23-07 debate

Senator Gravel,

I was disappointed that you weren't chosen to answer the question: "If you HAD to pick any Republican member of Congress or Republican governor to serve as your running mate... Who would it be?" I was especially hoping to hear your answer on that, but -- as usual -- the best questions are offered only to corporatist candidates. Of the Republicans currently serving as congressmen or governors, which one would you choose to be your running mate if you had no other option?

Gravel to Appear on MSNBC today

It's just after 11:00 AM EST, July 24

I just heard on the TV that Mike will be talking on MSNBC in a little bit

Thank you!

Dear Sir,

Thank you for your no nonsense approach to the problems in Washington. It's refreshing to see a politician go after his fellow politicians for their self serving actions, i.e.. special interest funding.

I feel you are a man apart from what both parties have become today. I pray that more Americans such as yourself step forward and work to save our nation from politicians who's only interest is that of themselves, their poll rating and how much money they can make.

Keep doing what your doing people are starting to notice! I can tell you this life long republican has and you have my full support!

God Bless.

cnn must realise its mistake

after 3debates cnn showed us AGAIN today why they are so biased and arrogant enough to show in centre-screen who they think will be the president.....
they are not doing the job of a news entity and have completely sidelined mr.gravel this debates, which were supposed to be about a breakthrough concept of freedom of expression.....balls

i mailed cnn asking for an apology to mr.gravel.....they must know that they cant do this shit and get away with it...
"This is about the ridiculous Cnn.Youtube debate today.....i was so excited at this new concept....so eager that fairness and truth would rule.....
But CNN has sold out just like the rest of them....I am making a concious effort not to watch cnn and discourage everyone i know, meet, see, bump into to stop watching CNN.

This outrage is for the unfair treatment given to MIKE GRAVEL on the debates.  Have you already decided for america who the president will be? Isn't journalism supposed to be fair and balanced?  In fairness how much time did you give Mr.Gravel compared to the others?

Your apology to Mr. Gravel and a sincere attempt to make ammends to this ridiculous sham we witnessed tonight will be your only redemption.

This man is the reason you are reading this mail and not forcibly drafted into the military. I cant believe it...You made me lose faith in you.

pissed off at your bias"

CNN - YouTube Debate

Tonights debate was such a farce.  I honestly thought that the format presented would have favored Mike.  Unfortunately, politics/media as usual came into play and Mike was left holding the bag.  I think that Mike's "potted plant" comment from the first Democratic debate served to be true even more so during this debate.  Clinton, Obama and Edwards were catered to at every opportunity.

CNN should be ashamed of themselves for playing into the hands of the big money contenders and not presenting a fair platform as promised for all candidates to express their views.  I can only hope that Mike can use this lack of attention to his favor.

Mike still remains strong in my mind, and I hope that other Americans can weed through this poor media coverage to see his strengths as the best candidate for president.

aol

i dont have cable (tv is pretty bad) so i was disappointed that i could not watch.

i was anxious to see the results--AOL featured Obama and Clinton with NO MENTION of Gravel in their article.  i dont trust aol or their polls-----  they are biased.

The always passionate Mike Gravel

Mike,

I once again tuned into tonight's debate to see you put the other candidates in their place. I was disappointed but not surprised to see you ignored for most of the debate. However, when you did speak, I think your message was lost. Your passion is to be commended, but when you raise your voice and point your finger at the other candidates, you come off as being belligerent (the antithesis of your message). In your one-on-one interviews, you've been calm and collected in your responses. I feel that approach is much more effective at conveying your message. I want other voters to understand your platforms without fear that you are a man driven entirely by emotion. Please consider taking a more tempered approach at the next debate.

Thanks for listening.

The FairTax, Equal Rights, and Moral Leadership? I'm in!

RE: CNN Debate

Phil Schullo, while I appreciate your kind words about Sen. Gravel and his forcefulness working to our disadvantage. But this is the very quality that got my attention at the first Democratic debate. The issues that the Senator talks of our very important when you consider that there are our troops dying for the bush oil cartel. And all those Democratic candidates except Kucinich are part of the protection to the massive corporations. They have all been bought off. I hope Sen. Gravel be the natural and add some vigor to the droll prattle we've had for ages! As one commenter coined, Republicrats are in for the ride.
Sen. Gravel is here to get us out of a big mess with his Leadership and not for pretty pennies. Also, the privileged are terrified of the FairTax !!! They have a lot to fear from Sen. Gravel and will do everything to derail him. But the Senator is a fighter !

They knew it too

Someone on myspace said" you noticed whenever Gravel spoke they zoomed way in on his face" This I think was the way they wanted to make him look even more angry than if they were 4 feet away. It is a political scam brought up by Hillary and the gang to eliminate the bottom contenders. Specially Gravel, I truly feel that all the elites in this country are very scared of Gravel and will stop at nothing to see him go down. He threatens everything they have worked for for the last 60 years. Mike is a very striaght forward guy his answers only take about 10 to 15 sec where the other candidates have to tap dance. I get what u mean though the media set him up for the reaction then zoomed in to make it look even worst than it really was.

They do it on purpose

I don't have any tv stations and am on dial-up so I didn't have the opportunity to watch this debate, but I did get to read the transcripts.  It's sooo obvious who CNN is behind..

They deliberately put Mike on the spot and try to make him seem like something he isn't.  Imigine being in Mike's position.  Up there on stage and knowing that, yet again, they are going to try to ignore you during a "debate" (if you can call them that) and you won't be given a chance to respond to questions that address the issues you truly stand for.  It would piss me off, too!  Mike has to take every opportunity he is given to wake people up and try to get his message across.  That's pretty hard to do when you are only given the piddley questions and are being rushed to boot!

I am outraged at the way these CNN "debates" are being handled.  As Americans we have a right to choose for ourselves who we want to vote for, therefore, we should be given the opportunity to HEAR each and every candidates opinions on each and every question.  And all should be given the same amount of time.  They don't let Senator Gravel have the time he needs, no DESERVES, because they know he will raise questions and get people thinking.  That's dangerous!  Can't have the Sheeple "thinking" for themselves, now can we.

This debate was an excellent idea, but they screwed the whole thing up and turned it into a sham!

Perhaps Senator Gravel will take the questions that were asked during this debacle, write his responses and make them available to print and hand out.

Don't let them get you down, Mike!  One of the many things I love about you is that you have proven that when you are passionate about something you believe in, you stick with it until you get the results you're after.

I THINK for myself - I'm voting for Mike!

When do we get the e-mail from Gravel??
