Hillary Coronation Wanted by 'the Bigs'

Thank you to all of the supporters of Mike Gravel who are sending in checks in support of the senator's candidacy. It may be worth your time to check out Ed Garvey's piece written for the Madison Capital Times (linked below to its post on CommonDreams) on the effect of money in this year's race. As the 'media' candidates close in on $1 billion, its not easy to disagree with Garvey when he writes, "Selecting the 'American Idol' will be a more democratic process than nominating the Republican and Democratic candidates for president."

Garvey goes on to write "You, my friends, are not needed. Big media conglomerates, pollsters, consultants, big drug and insurance companies, and other captains of industry will take this burden from your shoulders. You have plenty to keep you busy just making a living, so you can let the big boys ("bigs") and their bagmen make the decision for you.... The Democratic Leadership Council bigs decided five years ago to nominate Hillary Clinton in 2008."

He also writes,"Take a break, folks. They will let you know the names of the chosen ones by July... remember when we had a democracy and people like us played a role in nominating our candidates?"

Let's not let 'the Bigs' choose the next President. Let's take it back.

Alex

Media

I've been very disappointed by the lack of media attention that Mike Gravel has received and it has really opened my eyes to the truth about how these things work. Obama not running has been national headline news for many months while Gravel has gotten written off as a candidate of no importance, if he was even mentioned at all.I am not daunted by this however.  I believe that for every article or blog that says "Who the hell is Mike Gravel" there's at least one person who's going to go find out the answer.  Every Democrat I've spoken to who is old enough to have been involved in politics when Senator Gravel was in office knows exactly who Mike Gravel is and has expressed extreme relief and joy to hear that he is running.  They've also been very puzzled about why they hadn't already heard about it.  More and more people are starting to become aware that mainstream media may not have their best interests at heart and are looking at other avenues of information.Millions of Americans no longer vote because they don't believe that there is a candidate worth voting for or that their vote even matters. It's up to each and every one of us to inform as many people as we can that in 2008 we finally do have a choice worth getting out and voting for.

The Media and Money

No wonder there is disenchantment when voters are disenfranchised 2 years before the election because mainstream media has already anointed the select few -- "top-tier" candidates.

Its all about the war chest to scare us all off.  The scare tactics got us into the war in Iraq and the scare tactics are used to manipulate the American voter when it comes to casting our votes and our support for those who seek elective office.

Well, we've got a choice and we need to make our voices heard.  Speak truth to power and Let the People Decide -- not the mass media.

What has happened to America???

This guy is so right. If anything symbolizes America's obsession with the holy dollar it is our so-called Presidential elections. Enough of the money worship! Let's re-establish democracy and make our votes count!

Issues Will Count for More Than They Think...

I noticed the author didn't see fit to mention Mike Gravel.

I'm sure that will soon be an exception to the rule.

The economy has been taking some bumps of late, I think "issues" are going to be more important now then they have been in quite some time.

Good short article in the Independent (UK) quoting an analysis, by the McClatchy group of newspapers.

"Poverty gap in US has widened under Bush "

Things really are a lot worse than they look on the surface.
