In response to MSNBC's slight of Sen Gravel I wrote to Chuck Todd (Chuck.Todd@nbcuni.com) and Marc Binder(mambinder@nationaljournal.com)
who are in charge of there political coverage. I asked who they were to
say the Gravel wasn't a legitimate candidate and why they were fighting
on behalf of the so-called front runners, who I pointed out only held
that position because the media keeps covering them at everyone else's
expense. Here was the response from them "Ari,
I'll trump you in re: a personal response.
Here's our reasoning: It was a debate; instead of exchanging ideas and
pressing points, Gravel resorted to ad hominem attacks. Frankly, his
message was powerful enough without them. If you were Hillary Clinton,
why would you put yourself in a situation like that?
Marc" I
have not yet responded, but I thought that in addition to my response,
which will not be kind given that he basically said they are on
Hilary's side (I mean why else would they care about her position), all
of you might want to give these pundits a piece of your minds as well.
Keep up the good fight. Things are already beginning to change.
you speak the truth about the corporate-state military and prison-industrial complex that currently runs the show in the US. i was falling asleep watching the usual sidestepping and posturing during the debate when you came on and demanded that candidates actually engage with the real issues.
Just remember - "he who has no confidence in the creative capacity of the masses
and in their capability to revolt doesn't belong in the revolutionary
movement. He should go to a monastery and get on his knees and start

Thanks for trusting us Mike - We'll do our best to give you as large a soapbox as we can before the corporate media decides you are too much of a threat
Speak the truth about... the prison-industrial complex
You are right on robin hood! A friend, Jay Johnson-Castro Sr, has been on the case in Texas and it is unbelievable. Today Crony Chertoff refused to allow the UN Representative into the Corrections Corporation of America (CCA) for-profit prison at Taylor Tx, the T. Don Hutto prison.
DALLAS — A planned United Nations visit to a highly criticized central Texas center for detaining immigrant families was never approved by federal immigration officials, a U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement spokeswoman said Thursday.
ICE didn't immediately respond to questions of why the visit by Jorge Bustamante, the Human Rights Council's independent expert on migrant rights, wasn't approved.
Bustamante had been expected to tour the T. Don Hutto facility on Monday. The U.N. human rights office in Geneva announced late last month that he was going to tour the former prison in Taylor, as well as two border areas where U.S. officials say they will crack down on people illegally crossing the border.
This is a family prison. Got that? They imprison whole families and bill the feds $7000/month per family member.
They were nearly belly up before the Governor of TX and the President of the USA send them some special consignments of immigants.
Immigrants are good to imprison. You can imprison them without any grounds whatsoever and the PATRIOT Act has made it impossible for a judge to let them out of jail on the grounds that they are innocent of any crime whatsoever, not even charged!, for six full months!
They were forced to realease the members of one such family on 2 May. That's why they'd pushed back the UN reps visit 'til next Monday. And now they've cancelled.
For a family of four : 4 people X $7000/month X 6 months = $168,000
And some of those 4 people might be really little children.
This is really vile. Throwing people in prison for profit and suspending habeas corpus while scaring the population into thinking there might be some reason, some "terrorist" fraud, that justifies this is unbelievably vile. Their defense used to be "Yeah, but the Nazis were worse!" That defense, ridiculous as it seems, no longer works.
How long before they feel that what works for immigants works for citizens too?
Laws? They don't need no stinkin' laws! They got the guns and the badges.
I think out of the republican debate I walked way with we need a Gate to fence in Americans. We need more global war and they respect life.. Don't that contemplate war though. Yes and I think I just about fell asleep watching it!
I just watched your Colbert Report appearance. I think Steven was very nice and you did an amazing job, getting your point across. I just wanted to mention this point for the future appearances. The successful guests are the people who play by the rules of Colbert. For instance, when he asked you about Iraq and Vietnam, being different, I would have agreed and would have started to explain the geographical and cultural differences.
You are the only reasonable person in the race. I sincerely wish you success
I really liked you on Colbert but what happened to the angry guy in the debates? I think you should attack other candidates more and expose them for the fools they really are. Keep up the great work!
I think Mike Gravel would benefit from holding debates online, either msnbc.com or even something like myspace or youtube. more people use the internet as their source of information than all other media combined.
also, i think bill gates would support mike gravel and i tihnk he would be a huge ally in the business world.
I watched the re-run last night, 11:30... and found your sit down with Colbert pretty amusing.... I hope he invites you back.
You did a good job showing that you are not a grumpy old man, by contrast.... you had a very good aura about yourself on the show.
Off topic: Chris Mathews claimed on his show last night that Hillary is in first place, sadly this doesn't really reflect 'America', in contrast, it reflects MSNBC / General Electric's obsession with Getting Hillary to be the Democratic Candidate in 2008 which will result in a win for the Republican Candidate, whoever it may be on the Republican Ticket. (That is how I see the MSNBC / GE Strategy-Obsession of Hillary).
Greg it doesn't matter to GE if it's Republicrat or Demoplican. The only difference is a matter of style. And they prefer what ever style sells. So if its Republicrat, good! And if its Demoplican, good!
The DLC Demoplicans have been in control of the Democratic Party for at least six years. They were the ones who lost in 2000. They never fought their losses at the hands of the corrupt election officials in Florida and Ohio because they didn't have to. They still got paid. Paid whether they won or lost. They and the Republicrats are part of the same stable.
Which is why it is so refreshing to see a Democratic candidate in the Demoplican primaries. And why it will be sweet when a Democrat wins the Demoplican primaries and sweeps the house clean.
This is a resurgent populism, the people's party on the move. And not a moment too soon.
The corporate control of both parties and the agenda of the leadership of both parties to maintain their positions of control over the political landscape is one of the biggest problems our country faces today.
Mike gives us a viable candidate that is more interested in doing the right thing rather than saying what will make him most popular. I am very excited about his campaign.
Well done on The Colbert Report.. Anyone see what Obama did to the person that was running the Obama Myspace spot.. http://www.breitbart.com/article.php?id=D8OSE0FO0&show_article=1 read the article and tell me what you thought on how Obama's team handled it. Sad the guy spent alot of time on it. Got the big kick in ....
Barack Obama's campaign structure is obviously very heirarchic. Top down. Which is to say undemocratic.
Mike Gravel's campaign structure seems very much bottom up. I certainly imagine that it will stay that way. That is the aura that Mike himself exudes, and that is the history and the public philosophy of the man. NI4d.
I feel sure that Mike is in control of his own campaign. As he will be in control of his Presidency.
I feel sure that Barack Obams is not in control of his campaign. And that is why he will not be President.
I've long been interested in Direct Democracy and abolishing the electoral college, so go, Mike, go. The pathetic candidate offerings (of both parties) for the 2008 election have me thinking about the old anarchist admonishment: "Don't vote; it only encourages them." I need to know more but you look like a candidate I could back. Thanks!
"So how do we get the kingmaker media to realize you are the candidate we really want?"
The problem is that they do realize that! That's what has them running scared. If you are thinking of the media as a quasi-public service designed to inform the people... it's not like that but in the Golden Age of our imaginations. The media are corporate players, now more than ever. Their monoplies are not in the peopls's interest and they are often subsidiaries of even larger corporate criminals, like GE for instance, to boot.
We the people just need to realize that we are the kingmakers.
Listen to Mike for a few minutes, turn off your tv, work for his election, vote you own interests.
That is the question that should be being asked. It's how you frame the debate. Telling people we lost is a hard sell, as Colbert brilliantly pointed out with his faux logix. Definitely need to start framing the debate with that.
At least Mike got some air time, but come on! We are drenched with news reports of Hillary, Obama, Gilluiani and McCain. What will it take to get more media attention???
This is actually my first time watching the Colbert Report -- I know I'm ashamed to admit that -- but I found him to be hilarious. I thought Mike did very well. He was funny, relaxed, and comfortable. He was able to get his points across, and got thunderous applause from the audience when he said that the war was already lost. I also loved his joke about the "Colbert Bump" and considering him as Vice Presidential material. Let's keep these TV appearances up. I'm setting my DVR for the Today Show tomorrow since I heard that Mike is going to be on.
Loved the spot on the Colbert Report. Finally a Democratic candidate to get excited about. Mike does a great job bringing important issues and important views to the front of the debate.

I used to respect Chris Matthews and Keith Olbermann---now, after watching their interview with Mike Gravel, I consider them little puppets in the mainstream political machine. They are nothing but lapdogs, and they're going to vote for Hillary or whomever the most washed-out, washed-up candidate is.
But we're not, and we'll show them: GRAVEL in 2008!
For now, the "Gravel effect" is not in the european major press like french "le monde", spanish "el país" or portuguese "publico, is too early for that.
Is necessary that the "Gravel effect" gain the status of real outsider and make +- 10% of the democratic polls for make Mike Gravel a man on the news in europe.
But as a europen, and you know that, we have a diferent politic sense (not worse or better than you americans, just diferent) and for me Gravel look like a racional and inteligent man, and that is not very common unfortunaly in american politics mainstream.
But the ball is in american people hands for make Gravel ne next US president.
I think the real key for Gravel´s sucess is: truth, justice and freedom.
He must conquest the heart of the real people and if the democratic party dont give him a chance, He must dispute as an independent the presidence.
Dont forget: the all peoples of the world trust in the american people for make America and the world a better place.
Hey! even though you all can't vote if there is enough positive media in europe about mike gravel things will be recognized here, especially endorsing mike to celebrities that tour there, show your opinions. This time bomb is ticking, action must be made for truth and real human nature.
Your English isn't so bad Paulo. Not much worse than our current President.
I agree, America desperately needs this kind of leadership. Imagine a non-imperialist United States. Imagine a US that tries every means of diplomacy, instead of violence, to influence the world. Imagine a more democratic America. Imagine an America with a fair system of taxation.

Vote for Gravel!!!

I agree, America desperately needs this kind of leadership. Imagine a non-imperialist United States. Imagine a US that tries every means of diplomacy, instead of violence, to influence the world. Imagine a more democratic America. Imagine an America with a fair system of taxation.
More of us are with you, Paolo, than you might think.
