Senator Gravel would like to thank each and every one on you who worked so hard to get him into the New Hampshire Democratic Presidential Debate. This invitation is a direct result of the dedication and work of those of you who have stood up for this campaign in the last 72 hours. This is absolute proof that the people working together can stand up to corporate media and have our voices heard. Senator Gravel has said all along that this is your campaign and today your voices have been heard loud and clear.
Our work has only just begun. Again, thank you to all of you.

Submitted on May 1st, 2007 by DyeVadThis is your chance to show the world democracy isn't dead in America. This is your chance to make your voice heard and to show the current administration we do not agree and we will not be scared into laying down and giving up our freedoms and constitutional rights for wars backed by the greed of resources and money. Please America stand up every day and tell someone about Mike Gravel. Print bumper stickers and VOTE IN THE PRIMARY! It is so important for Mike Gravel to win the primary to get the official Democratic party backing with the campaign funding and all. This is our goal. If we can get him there, Gravel WILL win this election.

Submitted on May 1st, 2007 by dustinblytheThank you to everyone who signed my petition urging that Sen. Gravel be included in the debate. We ended up with 6,000 signatures just since Saturday afternoon. I am cutting the petition off today and will send it to the publisher of the Union Leader to reinforce the point.

Submitted on May 1st, 2007 by OneOfBillionsWell Done! Dustin,
We must win this war of truth one battle at a time. Victory is our's on this first and very important battle. In no small way you deserve the credit for this victory. I am very honored to have been allowed to do my part. Thank you very much for making that possible. As an American veteran I feel this is the most important election of my lifetime. I trully believe our Republic will fall if we do not get the Globalist/New World Order out of our public offices. Getting Mr. Gravel elected is the first step to accomplishing that goal in my mind. After signing your petition, I contacted everyone in my address file with the information. To date I have written four letters to the media in support of Mr. Gravel. After the debate we can expect another wave of new people here on the site. We must prepare actions for those new people to be a part of when they arrive. It would be a great idea for us to begin another thread to develope a plan of action with that wave of people to be apart of.
Again I say well Done Sir!
Sincerely and Best Regards

We should all use this experience to reassure ourselves that Sen. Gravel is a long shot only if we believe it from the know-nothing pundits (you know, the ones that scared us into ignoring the PATRIOT Act and believing war was a good idea). The people ultimately decide which candidates win the election, and history has shown that to be the case.
I've been making it a point to write to every journalist, TV, print or radio that characterizes Gravel's campaign dismissively asking for equal, fair, unbiased coverage (I'll make sure to post when and where I see it happening). You know, it really only takes the co-ordinated action of a few hundred people for a local newspaper or a blogger to really feel there is a major backlash. The Christian right has accomplished this with their vigilance of broadcast programs to convince networks to pull programs and the FCC to levy gigantic fines when really the support is really very minimal. I am the outgoing General Manager of a college radio station, and our rule of thumb is one caller = 20 listeners. So 300 letters in the mind of the media types is something like 3,000-6,000 supporters. Your voice does have an impact.
We should also consider organizing boycotts of CNN, Fox News, and MSNBC advertisers' products if Sen. Gravel continues to see unfair treatment from these networks (including characterizing him as a third-tier candidate).
And on the other hand, people should send thank you notes to the people from CNN and the New Hampshire press for listening to our voices. This may encourage them to listen to us the next time.
I mean, come on. Does anyone really see a single person in this country getting fired up by Dodd, Biden or Richardson? Does anyone have a reason to like Clinton, Edwards or Obama other than some specious claim that they are "electable"? They stand for nothing-in-particular, their platforms are as pedantic as they are vague. Let's be respectful, but let's be loud, and let's be as active as the forums on this site have been lately.

electable
Submitted on May 1st, 2007 by larryauI agree with you 100% on the electability part. I mean, can people put more depth in this? People should look at what their candidates stand for.. their values... and ask themselves: "do they believe in the sames thing as I do?" And not, as you have said, "can they be elected?'
Anyways here's just what I think of the candidates: Clinton is just a joke. Obama had a free media ride from the beginning. And Edwards... *cough*400dollarhaircut*cough*, plus he gets people make documentaries about him.

...excellent points :)
Submitted on May 1st, 2007 by tinalouiseBrilliantly put David. I too feel the impact of having taken an action and seen a result happen quickly - caused By the people, For the people - we are amazing.
I also use a strategy you mentioned - after many letters to those in power who act against humanity, decrying the war and the actions of the governments in the US & UK, with no response or flippant answers....I started to write to those who actually did work for a peaceful resolution to the war in Iraq and sense in government. The result - many letters replied to by wonderful, inspiring people. It is such a gift and the true reward whilst tackling injustice and inhumanity.
We can do this - you made another point that rang true....perception is reality and if we listen to those who say Mike doesn't have a chance, that will be the reality - whereas (as proven here by the actions of the wonderful people of this forum)....if we decide to make something right a reality - we can damn well do it :)

But I really like your idea of thanking those who have fought against the administration and the war all along. I agree with Sen. Gravel that we need more transparency and devolved power to the people, but there are some people in Congress and government left with a conscience that actually act as advocates for the people, and I can definitely imagine that a few letter of thanks could do a lot to encourage them not to give up the good fight.
Cool website, btw. I like the concept.

I haven't made much mention of Arms Against War here as although I believe it goes hand in hand with Mike Gravel's way - this is his place and all the internet space should be his till we can get him in a place where he has the power to make change happen.

Submitted on May 1st, 2007 by happygmoreThank the content of Gravel's words for me as well. The youtube video clip http://youtube.com/watch?v=1gMlHv2lDqA was a nice summary of the debate in South Carolina on 4-26-07. The words were passionate, open-heartedly honest, and provided a sting of truth that a reflection of looking in the mirror can only bring. I remember watching Kerry during his debates and thinking how painfully predictable his talking points were, fearful of offending anyone/facing any truth (not that the fake cowboy was any better). His points about our culture being shaped by lobbyists and defense spending, the fear factor, illegal wars, and the banning nuke talk/non-proliferation of nuke violators (us) were what compelled many of us to act. I thank Big Mike for providing the email addresses here and Neomeme for his link to the video here. Thanks guys.

Submitted on April 30th, 2007 by Gravelian83This is great news! It's refreshing to be part of a campaign in which our concerted efforts actually yield tangible results.
This reminds me of that famous Margaret Mead quote that rings so true today as when she first uttered it: "Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful committed citizens can change the world. Indeed it is the only thing that ever has."
